I uploaded ar some time ago to Debian.
In order to get automatically notified and keeping track when there is a new upstream version, tags in the Git repository as used in the Debian infrastructure to do that. unfortunately, ar doesn't have any yet.
Would you mind releasing the current version with a version number of your choice and tag subsequent releases? That would make the life of all downstream packages (regardless of which Linux distribution) a lot easier.
