Hi @yeahletters That's bad to hear. Yes, there are unofficial ones like https://github.com/dingodoppelt/jamban and @Rob-NY also has one. We have multiple requests like #1057 or #1371 but I think there's a general disagreement about this topic I'm afraid. |
|
Note: I converted this to a discussion as it is not an actionable issue. You can now find your issue in the forum: #3030 |
|
Since we had quite some discussion about this topic, I belive we should really consider implementing something... |

I wonder if they're using a VPN to get unique IP addresses. Perhaps you could ban all IP ranges of that VPN. There aren't good reasons to use a VPN with Jamulus, are there? Perhaps only bad reasons. |

Had someone post profanities in the chat again tonight. This time round it was this:*** (removed profanities) |
|
It has happened again guys, I need to have a moderated chat please, this is happening to me too often. I don't feel safe or secure anymore. Maybe it is true that I need muting, but I really objectively speaking do not think so. (12:50:32 AM) No nom She need mute |
|
This would mean that I would miss chats from people who really have something to say, not ideal. |
|
I will paste the chat history (which happened last night), which I have coincidently been saving as a private logbook since the uncertainty of this not currently yet being a feature. To protect my own sanity I have not read the chat because it is hurtful and damaging. As mcfnord has mentioned banning on a firewall level is only possible for me on my own server. On this occasion I was not on my own server but it happened on the 'De Insel 2.0' server on 30 March 2026. I am afraid that I am compelled in conclusion to add that these kind of episodes have happened as a regular occurence. Please add a moderator chat function in future releases. I was just thinking about this a couple of evenings ago. Add a mute chat button below the mute button for each channel. If pressed, any char from that channel is not shown on the chat window. |

Had someone post an unnecessary and undesirable word again yesterday on my own server. I was too late to note the IP address of that particular user, but made a mental note of the username. (01:01:09 AM) wolle schiß |

Yes

I see, yes German. Not so bad, but unnecessary, and again a case of two
seconds in the server, leaving the rude comment and then prompt departure.
So bad manners and unnecessary voicing of one's not appreciated opinion.

But obviously it depends on the context. I'd probably just say something
like "mind your language and stay polite".

Uh oh!
There was an error while loading. Please reload this page.
Is there a function to ban or blacklist certain users with unique IP addresses on my own jamulus server? I had an unwanted guest (troll) posting profanties in the chat using capitals.
