Github is a dead site, but I'm still here because there are people that haven't gotten the message, and I need to collaborate with them. Additionally, I have quite a lot of Vim plugins that are likely installed to people's configurations through github URLs. I may delete the account at some point or I may automatically archive all my repos, hard to say. I'm still pushing updates to the projects I have here.
New projects will be started in one of two locations:
- Codeberg, where I tend to share public-facing projects where people can easily register and have a more-or-less Github-like experience: https://codeberg.org/AndrewRadev. You can follow my activity there through the "Public activity" feed, either through the web interface or through RSS or Atom.
- Sourcehut, where I mostly keep more personal projects that I expect would not be interesting to most people: https://sr.ht/~andrewradev/ (Though you can still try the sourcehut methods of submitting code patches if you want to.)
Eventually, I may set up some self-hosted git repo.
The major trigger for me to give up on Github is their decision in Github Universe 2023 to stop being a code hosting company and become an AI slop company:
Just as GitHub was founded on Git, today we are re-founded on Copilot.
I do not need AI slop. I need a code hosting and collaboration platform. But Microsoft has a near-monopoly on that, so here we are. A more verbose explanation can be found here: https://nogithub.codeberg.page/. A clear description on my stance on LLMs can be found here: I am an AI hater.
If a repository of mine does not explicitly have an anti-LLM clause in its documentation, it's only because I haven't gotten around to writing an automated script to add one. You may assume that LLM "contributions" will be rejected on principle.
