I'd like to take this on. I checked the current file manager on master: it lists uploaded files by name, but does not provide an image preview.
The scope will stay within the existing plugin-configuration file manager: show thumbnails for supported uploaded images, allow a larger preview, and leave non-image files and the existing upload/remove actions unchanged. Image reads will keep plugin authentication and be restricted to the selected plugin/configuration field's upload directory; this will not expose an arbitrary filesystem or public-file endpoint.
I'll add regression coverage for authentication, path/symlink isolation, unsupported/missing/invalid images, and check the actual dashboard before/after, including cleanup when switching fields or closing the dialog.
Disclosure: this investigation, implementation, tests, and comments are being produced with OpenAI Codex assistance. No maintainer approval or human code review is implied.
Implemented in #10596. It adds authenticated thumbnails and a larger preview inside the existing file manager, while retaining non-image/missing/invalid-file management.
The PR includes real before/after and mobile screenshots, a 10-second browser recording, 31 new API cases, the full Python result (4032 passed / 4 baseline skips), 66 existing frontend tests, and 21 browser acceptance checks. The implementation and evidence are Codex-assisted; upstream review/CI are still separate from these local results.
