Install INCEpTION
The windows section is going to consist of guesses, unless Beata decides to share.

We're (re)starting at version 40.6.

Note that this version assumes that you have at least Java 11. (In an updated system, that should not be a big issue -- my ancient Linux system has openjdk 17.0.9 2023-10-17 on it, the Adoptium site has Java 25 prepared for download; Java 11 is also there, should one wish to get exactly that one.)
Adoptium link (that should switch to the Windoze section automagically if you access the main page, but): https://adoptium.net/temurin/releases , you may want to choose the .msi installer for JDK.
There is also a way to install stuff via winget, which is probably there in your newest Windows. The relevant command for Java 25 is: winget install EclipseAdoptium.Temurin.25.JDK
Download the jar file (link above) and run it by double-clicking -- it will hopefully start, or we have a problem.
What I could do is apt-get install temurin-25-jdk, but I'm going to stay with Java 17 for now, since:

java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: de/tudarmstadt/ukp/inception/bootloader/ExtensibleClasspathEnabledWarLauncher has been compiled by a more recent version of the Java Runtime (class file version 65.0), this version of the Java Runtime only recognizes class file versions up to 61.0
... which means that I do need that new Java, or a recompilation of the old one. So the new one it is. (The problem lies with the installation instructions -- they are outdated. I've just e-mailed the maintainer.)
What I had to do on my old, old desktop is:
