The compiled version of IPFONT.GETCHARSET throws an error but the interpreted version does not. This happens for characterset 356Q for all the faces of Helvetica 6 Interpress, and also Helvetica 7.
(FONTCREATE 'HELVETICA 6 MRR 0 INTERPRESS NIL 356Q) in master should show the error with offender -50.
If you LOADFNS(IPFONT.GETCHARSET INTERPRESS) (you might need exports.all too), it should go through (although maybe the result is garbage).
The offending line is a simple call to \WIN to read in a 2 byte word. There is a comment noting that line in the version of this function in draft PR #2745. You should be able to get this in that branch if you first remove fonts/medleyinterpressfonts/ from INTERPRESSFONTDIRECTORIES--otherwise it will avoid this by reading the medleyfont version (which I created by running uncompiled).
