Closes #268.

Adds Lange's Applied Probability, 3rd ed (Springer 2024), as an "Another explanation" pointer on two pages, with a references.bib entry (DOI included):

  • probability-basics.qmd: Sections 1.2 (probability and expectation) and 1.3 (conditional probability).
  • expectation.qmd: Sections 2.3 (conditioning) and 2.5 (tail probability methods).

The section numbers come from the book's table of contents. No book text is copied. I rendered probability-basics.qmd to HTML locally and the citation resolves; I did not render expectation.qmd separately, and the DOI check and spell check are left to CI.

🤖 Antigravity agent report

Cross-harness review (Argon: Gemini 4 Argon (Medium) via Antigravity agy 1.3.5, read-only plan mode) at bf01c24

These come from the other model and I have not independently verified each one against the files, so treat them as leads. The review used the diff only (long diffs are truncated at 24000 characters); nothing was rendered.

Findings

  1. probability-basics.qmd — Broken ambiguous pronoun in adjacent block (the same course):

5MinuteAI's five-minute videos follow the same course [@fiveminuteai_probstat]:
Inserting the new callout-tip block directly between the Alex Tsun block and the .videos block breaks the referent of "the same course", which previously referred to Alex Tsun's course immediately above it and now appears to refer to Lange's textbook.

  2. expectation.qmd — Placement outside Further Reading / inconsistent with probability-basics.qmd:

    +::: {.callout-tip title="Another explanation"} (after {{< include pds/_subfiles/_def-cross-entropy.qmd >}})
In expectation.qmd, the callout is placed immediately after the cross-entropy definition subfile and right before ## References, whereas in probability-basics.qmd it is placed alongside other external resource callouts. Check whether expectation.qmd has a dedicated Further Reading section or if a section header is missing.

  3. expectation.qmd — Unnecessary comma before compound predicate / prepositional phrase:

in Section 2.3, and tail methods in Section 2.5.
Remove the comma before and ("...in Section 2.3 and tail methods in Section 2.5"), matching the punctuation style used in probability-basics.qmd ("in Section 1.2 and conditional probability in Section 1.3").

  4. expectation.qmd vs PR body — Terminology mismatch ("tail methods" vs "tail probability methods"):

in Section 2.3, and tail methods in Section 2.5.
The PR body states Section 2.5 covers "(tail probability methods)", whereas the prose in expectation.qmd shortens this to "tail methods". Use "tail probability methods" (or the exact section title) for clarity.

Code review

This confirms my prior reviews (2026-10-26, commit bf01c24, and the one before it on be528e3). Both gave Ready for merge, and that verdict still stands. The new commit a4d835c ("Move the Lange callout after the videos block and add a Further reading heading") only moves one callout and adds one heading. It changes no math, R code, bibliography or workflows.

What I checked in bf01c24..a4d835c

  • probability-basics.qmd:
    • The Lange callout moved below the .videos block, just before ## References. The #def-probability, expectation.qmd#def-expectation and #def-conditional-prob links are unchanged. They are still same-page or valid cross-page anchors, and the callout still sits after the definitions it links.
    • Fences are balanced. The commit message says it adds a "Further reading" heading, but this page has none. The change is only the move, which the prose here does not need.
  • expectation.qmd:
    • The new ## Further reading heading at line 155 sits after the last topic section and before ## References. The pointer text now links [probability](probability-basics.qmd#def-probability), a valid cross-page anchor.
    • Backward-looking links such as probability-basics.qmd are consistent with the sidebar reading order (Foundations before Moments). The prior text said "tail methods", so this also restores the clearer wording.

Suggestions (non-blocking)

  1. expectation.qmd:155: this is the only ## Further reading heading on the site. The other pages keep their resource callouts under topic headings. Adding a heading to one page and not the others is a slight inconsistency. It is harmless, and no external page links to the new anchor #further-reading.
  2. Carry-over from earlier rounds: the section numbers (2.3, 2.5, 1.2, 1.3) are still unconfirmed against the book's table of contents.

Verdict

Checked for correctness, Quarto syntax and crossrefs, consistency with the PR description, lost or duplicated content, and style, from the diff alone. Not checked: the rendered page.
