bug: error "could not fetch any client streams" #3534

Description

@PYCASS0

Bug description

getting constantly these errors "could not fetch any client streams" + videos buffering at 1 min mark in YouTube revanced + video quality locked at 480p

I try several things but nothing work:

  • rematched the YouTube app older and recommanded version: same issue
  • spoof the YouTube revanced app from the recommanded patch YouTube revanced Version: same issue
  • changed the spoof client, tried all of them, Android VR, Android studio and VisioOs were the greatest candidates for some times and then same issue
  • for the quality I tried the "show the quality button" option even if I am able to change the video quality using the button, the actual video quality is locked at 480p

    @303elliott

    Same issue. For what it's worth, you can close and reopen the player infinitely to continue the video; it will always let you play one minute of video before crashing. This bug does not effect Shorts

    Edit 9/30/2026: I had originally tried turning Spoof Video off which did not fix the issue, then I turned it back on to spoof visionOS and now it is working again.

    I have this issue also.

    I have the same issue

  4. peagravel commented on Sep 30, 2026

    @peagravel

    My YouTube is basically unusable at this point. I’ve tried every spoofing combination I can think of. Even visionOS, which used to work, now takes forever to load the video and then stops playback at the 60-second mark

    @xRy-42

    I had the same issue and thought I was doomed. Then I checked the settings and turned off spoof video streams and it works again. It even says on the setting, it can cause the video to stop at 1m.

    So go to revanced settings in youtube -> miscellaneous -> spoof video streams -> spoof video streams off

    Turning it off also worked only one day for me. Mine is currently working again with spoof video streams on and then set to android vr

    Has anyone tried patching a newer app version than the recommended one? I also get a "Playback error (App is outdated?)" toast

  10. SKzxsk commented on Oct 6, 2026

    @SKzxsk

    same,if spoof off,the video quality optional will be under 1080p with grey

    Patching anything newer than the recommended version failed for me.
    Might be possible if you just deselect all failing patches though. Didn't test that.

  12. Gorbiel commented on Oct 6, 2026

    @Gorbiel

    I tried patching different newer versions of the client, reducing the list of patches to 4-5 fundamental ones. Unfortunately at least one would always fail (and what's interesting the failing patch wasn't always the same between tries)

    Anyway, I've found these two repos:
    https://github.com/Jman-Github/Universal-ReVanced-Manager

    https://github.com/anddea/revanced-patches

    So far it's working out for me, it's not ideal (presumably) due to the recent youtube changes, but at least the development seems to be active.

    Same issue here: playback stops at about 1:00, then the quality drops and locks at low quality (360p/480p). I captured logcat and found what happens, and I found an unreleased fix that worked for me.

    Setup

    • YouTube 20.40.45, patches v6.2.1 (Jun 02), Manager 2.6.0, GmsCore 0.3.13.2.250932
    • OnePlus 15 (CPH2747), Android 16
    • Spoof video streams on, default client Android Studio

    What the log shows (failed runs)

    1. The first stream request (Onesie) fails: YT.onesie: Fatal error occurred during Onesie request ... Response code: 413
    2. The spoof request fails: StreamingDataRequest: Playback error (App is outdated?) ANDROID_CREATOR: 400 response: Bad Request
    3. Sometimes the fallback clients also fail: StreamingDataRequest: Could not fetch any client streams
    4. The app then plays the stock stream. At exactly 60 s, playback fails with ExoPlayerImplInternal: Source error ... Response code: 403
    5. The player switches to currentVideoFormat=18 (360p muxed). This is the quality lock.

    In my tests, Android Studio failed with 400 on every load. When the Android VR fallback succeeded, playback was fine (93 s at 720p60). visionOS and Android Reel also stopped at 1:00 in my tests.

    Fix that is merged but not released
    MR !6983, "fix(YouTube - Spoof video streams): Preserve quality selection" (commit e24b90b5f0399298e948a24a4cea00c9705bcc0d, merged to dev on 2026-08-28), covers this case. It skips fallback responses that contain only SABR formats, and it was tested on 20.40.45. The newest release is still v6.2.1 (June), so Manager users do not have this fix yet.
    https://gitlab.com/ReVanced/revanced-patches/-/merge_requests/6983

    I built dev at 12487bc071590ab5d844049ba08c59c534e3dcf9 (2026-09-30) and repatched 20.40.45 with the default selection. Results:

    • Before (v6.2.1): 3 of 5 test runs stopped at 1:00.
    • After (dev build): 8 of 8 videos played past 60 s, with no 403 and no drop to itag 18.

    This is one device and one evening of tests. OnePlus also drops app log lines over a quota, so my logs are not complete. Please treat this as a data point, not a confirmed fix.

    To build it yourself (Do not install patch files from strangers. Build your own.)

    1. Needs: JDK 21, Android SDK platform 34, and a GitHub token with read:packages (the Gradle plugin comes from GitHub Packages).
    2. Build:
      git clone --branch dev https://gitlab.com/ReVanced/revanced-patches.git
      cd revanced-patches
      echo "sdk.dir=$HOME/Library/Android/sdk" > local.properties   # use your SDK path
      export ORG_GRADLE_PROJECT_githubPackagesUsername=<your GitHub user>
      export ORG_GRADLE_PROJECT_githubPackagesPassword=<token with read:packages>
      ./gradlew :patches:buildAndroid

      Output: patches/build/libs/patches-6.1.1-dev.4.rvp. The version label is old because dev did not update it, but the content is current.
    3. In Manager: Patches tab → Edit → Add patches → Select from storage → pick the .rvp.
    4. Repatch YouTube 20.40.45. If both bundles are selected, every patch is applied twice. To deselect the v6.2.1 bundle, first turn on Settings → Advanced → "Allow changing patch selection and options". Turn it off again after.
    5. Install. The app updates in place, and your settings stay.

    Note: the dev build also includes other unreleased changes (Instagram, Brave, Strava and others).

    Request to maintainers: could you publish a release (or a dev pre-release) that includes !6983? Many people in this issue and in discussions #1496 and #1502 have this problem, and the only workaround now is a local build. Thank you.
