Thanks for this, @Adityakk9031! The head commit is the piece #1128 asked for, and I verified it against the code rather than the description: One thing on the head commit's own lines:
A small correction for the record: the description says the route is kept because This one stays on a maintainer hold, and nothing about it is a judgement on your work:
The substantive cubic threads are the two above (fuse_results, the enum export) — a fix or a short reply on why one does not apply are both fine. Not blocking this PR: I opened two follow-ups — #1139 for the missing test on this route, and #1140 for the PGVECTOR error code. You're welcome to pick either up. Once the order is set and the first point is in, we'll take another look. Thanks again! Reviewed with help from Claude Code and Codex. |

Make rag_backend_thread_safety_test.cpp runnable.
Issue #1128 explicitly requires core/tests/rag_backend_thread_safety_test.cpp to pass. The file still uses the removed provider-based API, and CMake excludes it. The new regression checks are not a substitute because they call rac_rag_search_proto, not RAGBackend::search.
Rewrite the named test against the current service-handle API, preserve its applicable concurrency coverage, and register it with CMake. A separate current-API test does not satisfy the requirement.

Update rag_backend_thread_safety_test to use the current service-handle API and
preserve its applicable concurrency coverage by exercising RAGBackend::search
rather than relying on rac_rag_search_proto. Register the test with CMake so it
is built and runnable.

Hey bro, please address the open comments, this pr has to be merged Thanks 🍀
What
RAGBackend::search→search_with_embedding→fuse_resultsis a second retrieval route that ignored the tuning added in #1017:k1/b.fuse_resultshardcoded the RRF constant to 60, and its normaliser to2/61.It now passes the session config through:
bm25_k1andbm25_bto the BM25 search, andrrf_ktofuse_results. The normaliser follows the RRF constant, since the best achievable fused score is2/(k+1). With the default config the values are unchanged. No SDK reaches this route today, so this removes a trap rather than fixing a live bug.
I took the issue's first option (honour the tuning) rather than deleting the route, because
rag_backend_thread_safety_test.cppstill calls it.Verification
Not compiled locally. The local MinGW configure fails on a missing onnxruntime source checkout in this environment, so I could not run the build or the tests here. Please treat CI as the first real check. The change is small (three call sites, one signature, one constant), but it has not been run.

Summary by cubic
The legacy RAG search route (
RAGBackend::search→search_with_embedding→fuse_results) previously ignored the session BM25/RRF tuning: BM25 ran with fixedk1/bandfuse_resultshardcoded the RRF constant to 60 with a matching normaliser. The route now passes the session config (bm25_k1,bm25_b,rrf_k) all the way through, and the normaliser follows the configured RRF constant. Defaults are unchanged. The same tuning knobs, plus
vector_store, are now also validated and forwarded through the engine-backed retrieve operator and therag.search/rag.queryABI paths. TheVectorStoreenum moved fromsolutions.protointorag.proto.Validation and operator hardening
bm25_k1,bm25_boutside [0, 1], and negativerrf_kare rejected instead of silently dropping hits.rrf_kcan't produce accidental ties.Written for commit 62760b6. Summary will update on new commits.
