Plugin Compatibility (cxx plugin)
As a general rule, only LTS versions are supported by the cxx plugin. Intermediate versions are often not stable enough and break API compatibility. The maintenance effort of all variants would be too high. We only do testing with the Community version and assume that a Server version is compatible if it use the same Plugin API version.
Please always review the SonarQube Release Notes when upgrading to a new SonarQube version. These release notes include important information about 'Deprecations and Removals', which describe changes to features and API endpoints that may impact plugin compatibility. For further details, refer to the Deprecation Policy.
API Compatibility
Breaking changes to the SonarQube API occur only when the major version changes. As a result:
- Plugins should remain compatible with future versions of the API within the same major version.
- New APIs can be introduced in any release.
- Plugins may perform runtime version checks to determine whether newly introduced APIs are available, depending on the target platform.
