Catalog
The catalog represents the list of global datasets that an organization wishes to publish. The catalog contains all data as container and entry point for conducting searches and publications. A catalog will have a number of basic attributes such as name and date of creation.
In a relational level, a catalog can be composed of one or more datasets.
Dataset
The dataset is the basic container of a set of data. The dataset will be identified and separated from the rest by a certain subject, whether the scope or their own meaning. Its metadata describes the issues of interest to the end user, as they can be: title, description, level, frequency of release, released formats, etc.. All those values in each of the different languages in which data and other portal pages where they are offered are published.
Examples of datasets include: income and/or expenses budget, training catalog, statistical report, tangible assistance, etc..
In a relational level, a dataset can be composed of one or more distributions.
Distribution
A distribution is a particular file within a dataset with a specific format. It contains data from a dataset into a certain format and for a specific time interval. It also has a variety of metadata that describe it within a dataset. Note that a dataset can have several distributions with same data but different formats or release dates. This file will be the reusable element in the system offering the possibility of this being downloadable by the user with a unique and unchangeable address element.
