It would be very convenient if the app had support for message editing and other context manipulation features. For example:
- Message editing: The user is given the option to edit their own messages and regenerate a new assistant response from there. This is useful when the assistant misinterprets the initial message and the user has to rephrase it. Currently there is no way to do it.
- Conversation branches: Similar to how mainstream apps do it. The app allows the user to branch off from any given assistant response and continue in a new session. This allows the user to explore different "timelines" when brainstorming.
- Response regeneration: This is mainly useful when using the model with high temperature. It allows the user to generate multiple different responses from the same input. Very useful when going through ideas and brainstorming sessions.
Another convenient, though not really necessary, feature is role switching and manual message insertion. LM Studio allows the user to insert messages as either the user or the assistant without generating a response. This is useful to either steer the conversation in a certain direction before the assistant ever sees it, or reconstruct a different conversation (either partially or in full) without having to go through the inference process which is time consuming and will most likely generate something different than intended.
