Summary

cedar dev --ud runs the classic api and web dev servers instead of the unified one when any of these is true:

  • streaming SSR is enabled
  • the workspace selection doesn't include both api and web
  • the project has a custom server file (api/src/server.ts)

The flag is dropped without any output in these cases. This PR prints a one-line warning naming the reason. Behavior is otherwise unchanged; the classic servers still start.

Testing

  • yarn workspace @cedarjs/cli vitest --run src/commands/dev/__tests__/dev.test.ts (new tests for the server-file and single-workspace warnings, and for no warning when unified dev runs)
  • prettier --check and eslint on packages/cli/src/commands/dev

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Development startup now displays a warning when unified development mode cannot be used because streaming SSR is enabled, a custom server is configured, or either the API or web workspace is excluded. In these cases, the classic development servers run instead. When unified mode is available, no fallback warning is displayed, helping clarify which development mode is running.

Walkthrough

When --ud cannot select unified dev, the command builder warns with the fallback reason and returns null. Tests cover fallback warnings and confirm that unified dev does not trigger the warning.

Layer / File(s) Summary
Fallback warning behavior
packages/cli/src/commands/dev/devHandler.ts, packages/cli/src/commands/dev/__tests__/dev.test.ts
The command builder warns when streaming SSR is enabled, either API or web is excluded, or a custom server file exists. Tests cover these fallback warnings and verify that the unified server does not produce a --ud has no effect warning.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 072bb

When a source path is missing, classic servers still start without an explicit notice that --ud fell back. This is a limited user-facing gap.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Warn when --ud falls back because api.src or web.src is missing.

When --ud is enabled, this branch returns null, and the caller selects classic dev-server mode. The current message does not state that --ud has no effect or that fallback mode is active.
