Description

@schommelstoel

Tried setting up a chatmail relay on a Raspberry Pi 5 with the latest OS (Trixie) and got first error:

[***] The following packages have unmet dependencies:
[***]  dovecot-imapd : Depends: dovecot-core (= 1:2.3.21+dfsg1-3) but 1:2.4.1+dfsg1-6+deb13u2 is installed
[***] E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt --fix-broken install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

Got that fixed by running apt --fix-broken install but ran into next problem:

--> Starting operation: Validate dovecot configuration
[***] doveconf: Fatal: Error in configuration file /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf line 5: The first setting must be dovecot_config_version

Adding this setting won't fix it, seems the config file needs updating to met new standards.

    Yes, Debian 13 is not supported, we only support Debian 12. This is mostly because dovecot 2.4 dropped some features that we need; for now, you should run chatmail relays on Debian 12.

    Closing it as a duplicate of #476

    Thanks, will wait for the release that supports Debian 13 then.

    Perhaps it would be wise to mention Trixie is not yet supported in the docs on https://chatmail.at/doc/relay/getting_started.html as it now states "minimal" requirements, it put me on the wrong foot. It can prevent a lot of annoyance and disappointment for other people.
