Describe your idea in details
The build instructions for macOS are rather sparse, and include some seemingly unncessary steps.
Why would I install Xcode? I can install the command line tools directly.
Why should I install homebrew? I use and prefer Macports.
Please include some hints about how to use libraries installed by Macports instead of brew.
Why do I have to build wxWidgets from source? Why do I have to install them into my system? I can install wxWidgets with Macports, and they will be installed into a common non-system directory.
Well, wxWidgets is a bit weird; it installs into a framework: /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/wxWidgets.framework that contains the normal bin/include/lib/share folders. The Macports installer does not add links from to the usual /opt/local/(lib/bin/include/share) folders. But the Python libraries are also installed similarly, as a framework, and they seem to work.)
More to the point, why am I installing anything outside of the app bundle? Please provide an option to install all libraries into the app bundle, so I don't have to modify my system. Usually, an app should be self-contained, and not rely on the installation of custom libraries anywhere else in they system, except those provided by Apple as part of the base OS.
Why does codelite depend on mysql and postgresql libraries? Does it work if I leave them out?
Why does codelite build its own copy of openssl? Why can't it use the one provided by homebrew or Macports, or the system version?
Finally, why am I building from source at all? Why is there no Mac binary download? Why is there no Mac App Store download?
Thank you.
