I build mission software — and the engineering platforms, standards, and delivery systems teams need to ship it reliably.

My work spans aerospace software, cloud-native systems, platform engineering, DevSecOps, developer experience, and release engineering, with an emphasis on turning complex software delivery into something repeatable, secure, maintainable, and operationally reliable.

What I Work On

  • Mission software — aerospace, NASA, federal, and other high-assurance software environments
  • Platform engineering & developer experience — paved-road workflows, repository standards, reusable CI/CD, local development, and engineering automation
  • DevSecOps & release engineering — automated testing, quality gates, security scanning, packaging, versioning, release readiness, and traceability
  • Cloud-native systems — containerized services, distributed applications, deployment automation, and operational tooling
  • Multi-environment delivery — reducing integration risk across local, isolated, staged, and operational environments
  • Technical leadership — engineering direction, mentoring, delivery discipline, cross-team coordination, stakeholder alignment, and standards development

Selected Impact

NASA Earth Science

Spent eight years supporting NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Earth science software, helping modernize scientific data systems and turn complex Earth-observation data into accessible operational and public-facing applications.

Contributed to a cloud-based global water and flood mapping platform using satellite-derived Earth-observation data to support near-real-time flood analysis, mapping, and disaster-response workflows.

Python · Laravel · MySQL · AWS ECS · Amazon S3 · Earth Observation

Also contributed to modernization of NASA Earth Observatory, helping rebuild and support one of NASA's major public-facing Earth science platforms.

Platform & Delivery Engineering

Modernize software delivery across multi-repository systems through:

  • reusable CI/CD pipelines and workflows
  • repository and pull-request standards
  • automated testing, quality, and security gates
  • dependency and packaging modernization
  • release automation, versioning, and governance
  • consistent Definition of Done practices
  • improved integration and release traceability
  • repeatable developer workflows across environments

Mission Software Delivery

Help engineering teams move from ad hoc, environment-specific delivery toward repeatable and supportable software practices that can survive real integration constraints, isolated environments, multiple organizations, and operational deployment.

Publications

A Web-Based High-Resolution Global Water and Flood Mapping Platform

Frederick S. Policelli · Albert J. Kettner · Karl M. Hill · Devon V. Maloney

Co-author of research describing the development of a web-based, high-resolution global water and flood mapping platform designed to make satellite-derived flood information more accessible through modern web and cloud technologies.

The work brings together Earth observation, large-scale geospatial data, cloud infrastructure, and software engineering to support global flood mapping and analysis.

Engineering Philosophy

Good engineering teams need more than good code.

They need clear standards, fast feedback loops, visible tradeoffs, repeatable delivery, and effective platform support so engineers can spend their time solving real problems instead of fighting tooling, environment drift, and inconsistent processes.

My focus is helping teams move from:

“It works locally.”

to:

“We can build it, test it, secure it, release it, deploy it, and support it reliably.”
