Map rendering

pop4959 edited this page Mar 10, 2024 · 10 revisions

If you use a map rendering plugin such as Dynmap, BlueMap, or Squaremap, you will want to do a full render of your world to display new chunks after pre-generating your worlds. You may also have a world border which you want to display on the map.

Many servers also like to keep clean edges to their maps. Usually this is done either with a visibility limit, or by pre-generating slightly further than the render distance past your world border. For example, if you have a 10000 block radius world border, and your server has a 10 chunk render distance, you can add 200 blocks for an effective pre-generation radius of 10200.

Dynmap

Rendering

To render the map, use the following command:

dynmap fullrender <world>

Visibility limits

To set a visibility limit for a world centered at 0, 0 with radius 10000, you would use a commands like this:

dynmap pause all
dmap worldaddlimit <world> corner1:-10000/-10000 corner2:10000/10000 style:air
dynmap pause none

Further documentation can be found in a reddit post here by mikeprimm. Keep in mind that the visibility limit will only affect newly rendered areas, so you may need to re-render your world to apply the limit to an existing world.

World border markers

Assuming you have ChunkyBorder installed, first ensure you have dynmap enabled under the enable section of map-options in the ChunkyBorder configuration. Then, run the following commands for example to create a world border and marker in the world with a center at 0, 0 and radius 10000:

chunky radius 10000
chunky border add

Your world may look something like this when finished:

BlueMap

Rendering

To render the map, use the following command:

bluemap update <map-id>

Visibility limits

To set a visibility limit for a world centered at 0, 0 with radius 10000, you need to edit the map's configuration file as follows:

min-x: -10000
max-x: 10000
min-z: -10000
max-z: 10000

Keep in mind that the visibility limit will only affect newly rendered areas, so you may need to re-render your world to apply the limit to an existing world, which you can do with /bluemap purge <map-id>.

If the visibility limit still doesn't seem to be updating, try clicking "Update Map" from the BlueMap menu.

More information can be found on the BlueMap Wiki.

Squaremap

Rendering

To render the map, use the following command:

squaremap fullrender <world>

Visibility limits

To set a visibility limit for a world centered at 0, 0 with radius 10000, you need to edit Squaremap's config.yml file with something like this:

      visibility-limits:
      - type: rectangle
        min-x: -10000
        max-x: 10000
        min-z: -10000
        max-z: 10000

More information can be found in the Github pull request that added visibility limits to Squaremap. Keep in mind that the visibility limit will only affect newly rendered areas, so you may need to re-render your world to apply the limit to an existing world.
