Promote the Write Guard Rewrite, uv Scripts, and Parser Gates to Main - #3417
Promotes the pull requests merged into develop since release 2.0.1148. Each carries a maintainer decision of 2026-10-23 recorded on #3391.
#3407: rewrites the write guard as a small lexer of 1,653 lines. It fails open under its stated threat model and fails closed only on requirement 4. A test holds it at 2,500 lines or fewer (item 1).
#3409: adds CODESTYLE rules. Tests live in tests/, and a maintained parser replaces a hand-written one. A script declares its dependencies in PEP 723 metadata and runs as uv run --no-project --script. It switches the callers to that spelling and adds a managed allow rule to the agent-safety installer (item 1 follow-ups).
#3410: splits pr_review.py into the gate, a Copilot adapter reading its vocabulary from JSON, and pr_cleanup.py. It collapses the exit codes and adds tests/requirements.txt and the CI runners.
#3411: rebuilds the prose gate on Pygments and markdown-it-py, with its vocabulary and exemptions in prose-gate.json and a repo-local override.
#3415: holds the Merge Gate on a part of a Copilot review body the tooling cannot place. The hold lasts until an owner acknowledges it with outcomes (item 4 follow-up).
#3416: moves the audit self-test to tests/ and reads YAML and Markdown with PyYAML and markdown-it-py. It adds the check registry spec/checks.json and splits out spec/audit_markdown.py. It shares spec/carried_text.py with carry, build_dist, and canonical_review.
#3418: fixes the findings this promotion's first review round raised on the content above. It aligns the drive-pr escalation line with pr-review-conduct and names tests/requirements.txt where the prose said the tests need nothing installed. It also restores the uvx launcher in a release-guard assertion.
#3419: fixes the finding the second review round raised. The Copilot adapter's prose path reads a coverage count longer than COUNT_DIGITS as unknown, sharing count_state with the marker path.
#3420: fixes the finding the third review round raised, under the maintainer's ruling. hub_fetch_run.py falls back to git ls-remote where the API lookup of main fails, so the prose gate and its data are fetched at one commit. Where neither lookup resolves, the documented fail-open against main stays.
#3421: fixes the findings the fourth review round raised. The Copilot adapter reads a finding count longer than COUNT_DIGITS as unknown rather than zero, through one length check and one None-aware sum. The host-setup gates-and-tests row says uv installs the test requirements.
The Copilot rounds on this promotion ran at Lite effort and state no full coverage, so Merge Gate item 2 rests on the promotion case. Each change this promotion carries had full coverage on its own pull request into develop, at its merged head:
## Summary
This rewrites `host-setup/agent-safety/claude/gh-write-guard.py` from
21,091 lines to 1,653. The guard bounds a good-faith agent's mistake. It
does not defend against an adversary, and it is not a sandbox. Its
fail-closed reading of every shell construct it could not parse caused
two kinds of churn. Each shape a session hit produced an over-denial
issue, and each shape a review read produced a gap issue. Every later
review also paid for the guard's size again. This change ends that loop,
per the maintainer's decision on #3391 item 1, extended the same day to
this rewrite.
- **One simple lexer.**
- It splits the command on top-level separators, honoring quotes and
backslash escapes.
- It reads each part as words, with leading assignments and redirections
set aside.
- A heredoc body is data.
- An earlier `export` or assignment is the environment a later command
sees. An earlier `cd`/`pushd`, plus git's `-C`, gives the directory.
Both end at the closing parenthesis of a subshell.
- It reads one level of literal string body for `sh -c`, `bash -c`,
`eval`, and `xargs ... sh -c`, and nothing deeper.
- **The same requirements, denied where they appear plainly.** The guard
denies each of these:
- discarded or forced-success output on a write
- a literal node id in a mutation
- a gh write naming another owner, through `-R`/`--repo`,
`repos/<owner>/<repo>`, `GH_REPO`, a pull request or issue URL, or
`--org`/`--owner`/`-o`
- a branch-rule bypass
- a hand-rolled review-thread reply or resolve
- a mutating git operation in a primary checkout
- an unbounded wait
`GH_WRITE_GUARD_ALLOW`, the same-owner sibling allowance, and the
mutating gh and git subcommand lists are unchanged.
- **Fail closed only on requirement 4.** A push to a
protected-by-default branch whose live rules cannot be read is denied.
Every other requirement allows a shape the lexer does not read.
- **Interface unchanged.** The file name, PreToolUse stdin contract,
deny output, exit codes, `classify` entry point, and `--selftest`
command line stay the same.
- **Corpus cut** to 191 cases, plus one live case that tells a real
primary checkout from its linked worktree. Each case is tagged with its
source: the plain shape of a requirement, an incident the README names,
or a shape that #3200, #3314, #3380, #1127, #3382, or #3385 records. The
fixtures use the Git Bash drive spelling, so the self-test also passes
with the Windows path reading on.
- **README spec.** The "Requirements" section of
`host-setup/agent-safety/README.md` is restated in its fail-open
reading, at about a quarter of its old length. Requirements 8 and 9 are
untouched. The kit README and `docs/host-setup.md` drop the sentences
this rewrite made false.
- **Size ceiling test.** `tests/test_guard_size.py` holds the guard at
2,500 lines or fewer.
- **Installer test.** `test_install.py` drops
`TestAliasReadThroughLinkedWorktreeGitfile`, which asserted the retired
alias reading. Its other guard-importing tests run unchanged, and the
guard keeps the helpers they import.
This carries the `comments` label because the guard file is rewritten
whole, so every comment line it keeps is new, and each one states a why.
## Accepted gaps under the threat model
Each category is a shape the lexer does not read, so the guard allows
it. Each is out of scope because a good-faith agent does not plausibly
type it in a normal coding session, and the prose rules still bind it.
- **Run-time words.** A target, refspec, directory, or command word held
in a variable, a `$(...)` or backtick substitution, or a brace
expansion.
- **Nesting past one level.** A wrapper inside a wrapper, a
substitution's body, a heredoc fed to a shell, and a script file.
- **Git indirection.** This covers aliases, `--git-dir`, `--work-tree`,
`GIT_DIR`, and `GIT_WORK_TREE`. It also covers config set through the
environment, abbreviated long options such as `--no-veri`, and `-c`
overrides on subcommands other than commit and push.
- **Push configuration.** This covers persisted `remote.<name>.push`
refspecs, a `push.default` other than its default reading, a mirror
remote, and refspec patterns. It also covers a bare push to a remote
other than `origin`.
- **Launchers and interpreters outside the short list.** This covers
`sudo`, `flock`, `watch`, `uv run`, and `env -C`. It also covers shells
other than `sh`, `bash`, `zsh`, `dash`, and `ksh`, and process-starting
interpreter code such as `python3 -c`.
- **gh shapes outside the listed targets.** This covers `orgs/`,
`users/`, and `repositories/<id>` endpoints, `..` segments,
issue-linking flags, and words `xargs` appends. It also covers a flag gh
treats as a boolean that the guard does not list, which then takes the
word after it as its value.
- **Wait bounds judged by appearance.** A `timeout` sending a signal
that ends nothing, a `while read` from an input that never ends, a
counter the body never increments, and a busy loop with no `sleep`.
## Local review findings
The local strict review ran five recorded passes. Three covered the
opening push and two covered the fix push to 9efc100. The last pass
found nothing new.
The opening push left two findings open, and both are fixed in f21b6a3
and 9efc100:
- A URL read that took only the first argument let a flag hide a target.
- The README said `@me` where the code skipped every `@` value.
One finding is declined as out of scope under the threat model in
`host-setup/agent-safety/README.md` "Why This Exists". A stranger's pull
request URL given as the value of a short flag the guard does not list,
such as a milestone or release notes set to a URL, reads as a target and
is denied. No agent plausibly types that shape, and the deny is the safe
direction.
## Pre-existing findings, not filed
- `test_install.py` `TestGuardSelftestUnderWindowsPaths` patches the
guard's `os` with `ntpath`, but never turns on `_MSYS_DRIVE_PATHS`,
which is computed at import. So Linux CI never runs the guard's Windows
drive-path reading, under the old guard or this one. The test's
docstring also describes a `~`-expanded fixture that no longer exists. I
verified the Windows reading by hand with `_MSYS_DRIVE_PATHS` forced on
(`SELFTEST PASS`).
- The live guard on the authoring machine denied the
`git-commit-conventions` skill's own one-line signing probe, at its
unquoted-value `git -C "$d"`. This rewrite allows that shape.
## Verification
Each command was run in the task worktree at head 9efc100:
```text
$ python3 host-setup/agent-safety/claude/gh-write-guard.py --selftest | tail -1
SELFTEST PASS
$ uvx ruff@latest check .
All checks passed!
$ uvx ruff@latest format --check .
260 files already formatted
$ uvx mypy@latest
Success: no issues found in 66 source files
$ python3 -m unittest discover -s tests
Ran 3093 tests in 209.825s
OK (skipped=7)
$ python3 host-setup/agent-safety/claude/test_install.py
Ran 162 tests in 25.304s
OK
$ python3 scripts/prose_lint.py . --diff origin/develop --allow-comments
scope: 6 of 381 file(s) read, 1480 changed line(s), diff against 'origin/develop', gate local 9efc100
(exit 0, with comment-added stood down for the comments label)
$ python3 scripts/repo_gate.py
(exit 0, every check ok)
```
The guard's self-test also passes with the Windows path reading forced
on, `_MSYS_DRIVE_PATHS = True`.

Implements Decision (ptr727, 2026-10-23) on #3391, follow-ups to item 1.
In the maintainer's words: "tests to tests and that should be consistent
for the fleet to have tests and keep them in tests, no hand written
parser when a field tested and maintained versions readily exists".
## What Changes
### Rules (CODESTYLE.md)
- **General, new "Parsing Structured Formats"**: a program reading a
structured format uses a maintained parser rather than a hand-written
one, where a field-tested parser exists for the runtime. The standard
library's parsers count. The python-codestyle and shell-codestyle skills
carry it as a generated include.
- **Python, new "Tests and Script Dependencies"**:
- A test lives in a `tests/` directory, never inside the production file
it tests. A script may keep a smoke `--selftest`.
- A hub-hosted standalone script that needs a third-party library
declares it in PEP 723 inline metadata and runs as `uv run --no-project
--script <path>`.
- A hook an agent harness runs on every tool call stays standard-library
only.
- The python-codestyle skill carries this subsection as a generated
include.
### Callers Switched to `uv run --no-project --script`
- `.github/actions/prose-gate/action.yml` (carried, runs in every fleet
repository):
- Gains the pinned `astral-sh/setup-uv` step, with the same SHA and
version comment the other actions use.
- Gains a "Locate gate step" that runs before setup-uv. It captures the
action path and pin into step outputs, so the nested `uses:` cannot
change what the check step reads.
- `.github/actions/validate/action.yml`: the unclassified-character
report.
- `.husky/pre-commit`: the hub's prose gate.
- `host-setup/menu.sh` (`hub_uv_script`) and `host-setup/menu.ps1`
(`Invoke-HubUvScript`): the audit action.
- `GOVERNANCE.md` "Running the Linters Locally": the pinned-copy
reproduction command. The section also no longer says the hub hook runs
`scripts/prose_lint.py`.
- `OPERATIONS.md`, `RESYNC.md`, `scripts/README.md`: the audit and
review-loop command lines.
- Skills, command text only, mirrors regenerated: `drive-pr`,
`merge-and-release`, `repo-worktree`, `pr-review-conduct`,
`resync-a-repo`, `backlog-burndown`, `audit-a-repo`.
- `host-setup/agent-safety/claude/install.py` and its README: a managed
allow rule `Bash(uv run --no-project --script scripts/pr_review.py:*)`,
added beside the existing `python3` rule. Without it, `cleanup`,
`reply`, and the other subcommands the skills now print would lose the
auto-mode allowance the skills cite.
- `docs/host-setup.md` and `spec/host-tools.json`: uv's stated role now
includes running hub scripts.
- `tests/test_prose_lint.py`: its action harness runs both steps in
order. It and `tests/test_pre_commit_hook.py` skip where uv is absent.
The three scripts themselves are untouched. None gains a metadata block
here.
## Why `--no-project`
The brief assumed plain `uv run --script` is safe on a script with no
metadata block. Measured from this worktree with uv 0.13.5, it is not.
Run inside a checkout that has a `pyproject.toml`, it syncs the
enclosing project: it wrote `uv.lock` and `.venv/` into the worktree,
and in a downstream repository with a real `[project]` it would install
that project. With `--no-project` it writes nothing. Once a script
carries a block, the flag is harmless. A constructed check outside the
repository confirmed both cases.
`--help` from the worktree, first line of each:
```text
$ uv run --no-project --script scripts/pr_review.py --help
usage: pr_review.py [-h] --repo OWNER/NAME [--timeout TIMEOUT]
$ uv run --no-project --script spec/audit.py --help
usage: audit.py [-h] [--branch REF] [--issue] [--selftest] [RepoName ...]
$ uv run --no-project --script .github/actions/prose-gate/prose_lint.py --help
usage: prose_lint.py [-h]
```
## Not Switched, and Why
- **`catalog/snippets/hub_fetch_run.py` and the `scripts/prose_lint.py`
shim** run `prose_lint.py` in-process through `runpy`, which ignores an
inline block. Every downstream hook and VS Code prose task, and the
shim's own callers, go through them.
- Switching their outer command changes nothing. The fix is inside them,
and it changes their tests' contracts. `tests/test_cli_usage.py` records
`uv` as a forbidden `--help` effect, so a delegating shim fails there,
as measured on this branch.
- Deferred to #3408. That fix has to land before or with the change that
gives `prose_lint.py` a dependency.
- **`.github/actions/validate/action.yml` `uvx coverage@latest run ...
spec/audit.py --selftest`** stays as is. The form that carries a
script's dependencies into coverage, `uvx --with-requirements <script>
coverage run <script>`, refuses a script with no metadata block (`error:
... does not contain inline script metadata`, measured). It can only be
adopted together with the block.
- **Narrative mentions** (`docs/reusable-workflows.md` run records,
`docs/token-efficiency-plan.md`, AUDIT.md's linked `spec/audit.py`
references) and `spec/audit.py`'s own usage docstring are left alone.
The docstring belongs to the follow-up that edits that script.
## Windows
Verified: `menu.ps1` parses with zero errors under `pwsh` on Linux, and
PSScriptAnalyzer through `scripts/docker_lint.py` is clean.
Not verified: no run on a Windows host. `Invoke-HubUvScript` calls `uv`
directly rather than through the `py` launcher, as the hooks' Windows
path needs. The hub `.husky/pre-commit` calls `uv` directly on every
platform, so Git Bash on Windows reaches it the same way. The Windows
unittest leg in `test-pull-request.yml` already sets up uv.
## Verification
```text
$ python3 scripts/prose_lint.py . --diff origin/develop
scope: 52 of 380 file(s) read, 274 changed line(s), diff against 'origin/develop', gate local 2f82ed9
```
Those four lines are wanted, so this pull request carries the `comments`
label:
- one new comment on why the gate is located before setup-uv;
- one existing comment that moved with its step;
- two existing comments corrected to name the new helpers.
With the label's flag:
```text
$ python3 scripts/prose_lint.py . --diff origin/develop --allow-comments
note: comment-added stood down by --allow-comments. In CI the composite action passes that flag from its own input instead, which the fleet's caller computes from the 'comments' label and from the run being a release-model promotion, and it clears PROSE_ALLOW_COMMENTS so a runner cannot decide one.
Other checks:
shfmt, PSScriptAnalyzer, and editorconfig-checker. After the last action
`test_pre_commit_hook.py`, and `test_cli_usage.py` were re-run, each
`OK`.
- Self-tests: `spec/audit.py --selftest` PASS, `spec/workflow_reuse.py
- `ruff check`, `ruff format --check`, and `mypy`: clean.
## Local Review
Three `local-strict-review` passes, each recorded and covering this
head. Pass one raised 12 findings and pass two raised 4. Both rounds
were fixed in 754ba17 and 2f82ed9, apart from the items below. Pass
three raised none.
- **Introduced, deferred to #3408**: the in-process runners named above.
- **Introduced, declined**: consolidate `hub_uv_script` with
`hub_python`. `hub_python` does not do this job, and a
launcher-parameterized helper would be no smaller.
- **Introduced, declined**: the menus' `command -v uv` and `Get-Command
uv` probes. They mirror `hub_python` and `Invoke-HubPython` in the same
files. The class, every menu helper's probe, is its own change. The hub
pre-commit hook's probe was removed instead, per CODESTYLE.md
"Operations and Failure Messages".
## Pre-Existing Findings, Not Filed
- Several long sentences predate this branch and only had one code span
edited inside them, at `OPERATIONS.md:7`, `scripts/README.md:243`,
`GOVERNANCE.md:293`, `host-setup/agent-safety/claude/README.md:25`,
`backlog-burndown` SKILL.md:287, `pr-review-conduct` SKILL.md:284, and
`resync-a-repo` SKILL.md:34. They exceed the opt-in 25-word
`sentence-length` cap.
- `spec/audit.py:24`: the usage docstring still prints `python3
spec/audit.py`, which still runs.
…pt (#3410)
Split `scripts/pr_review.py` into a gate core, a Copilot adapter whose
vocabulary lives in JSON, and a separate cleanup script. The goal is
containment: a change to Copilot's wording or layout becomes a data edit
plus one fixture, and never reaches the gate.
## What Changed
- **`scripts/pr_review.py`** holds the CLI, the GraphQL and REST
plumbing, the checks, the verdict, the wait loop, attest, comment,
reply, and claims. It drops from 8,074 lines to 2,929.
- **`scripts/pr_review_copilot.py`** is the adapter, 606 lines.
`read(body, reviewer, threads)` returns a typed reading and never
raises. The reading carries:
- the coverage statement: full, partial, none, or unknown
- the refusal kind: none, quota, file count, error, or unknown
- finding counts by section: threaded, suppressed, and previously missed
- the verdict class: clean, flagging, or unknown
- the headline, the effort, the file table's paths, and a one-line note
for each shape it cannot place
- **The adapter parses bodies with markdown-it-py**, declared in PEP 723
metadata. This deletes `CodeSpans`, the fence and tag helpers, and the
details and summary opener readers.
- **`scripts/reviewers/copilot.json`, `coderabbit.json`, and
`qodo.json`** carry the vocabulary. All three have the same keys and are
read by one code path. A test holds each file to the keys the adapter
reads.
- **`scripts/pr_cleanup.py`** carries `cleanup` and `cleanup --sweep`
unchanged, 1,155 lines. `pr_review.py cleanup` forwards to it, including
when a flag comes before the subcommand, so the skills' command lines
and the allow rule keep working.
- **Copilot's first body format is retired.** Its readers, vocabulary,
fixtures, and README explanations are deleted. A Copilot body without
the `ccr-overview-v2` marker reads as one note.
- **The digest's three copies of the collect-split-count pattern are now
one function, `collected`,** called for suppressed, previously missed,
and CodeRabbit outside-diff findings.
- **Tests are split.** `test_pr_review.py` covers the gate, CLI, and
writes. `test_pr_review_copilot.py` covers the adapter over constructed
current-format bodies. `test_pr_cleanup.py` covers cleanup.
`test_pr_review_size.py` holds the ceilings of 3,000, 1,500, and 1,200
lines, beside `test_guard_size.py`.
## Exit Codes
| Code | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| 0 | No Copilot review on the head yet (`status`), or the covering
review states no partial coverage and its verdict counts what it flags |
| 1 | A GraphQL read failed and ended the run |
| 2 | Usage error |
| 30 | `wait` pending at the timeout, including `CHECKS_PENDING` |
| 40 | No Copilot review on the head: answered outside a review, request
recorded nothing, or login drift (was 40 and 48) |
| 41 | The newest round is a refusal or quota state, its kind named in
the status line (was 41, 46, and 47) |
| 42 | Partial coverage stated, on the head or on an earlier round while
the head states none (was 42) |
| 44 | Review loop closed, merge `BLOCKED`, required check stuck |
| 49 | Held head with no attestation |
| 50 | Flagging verdict that counts no finding |
| 60 to 63 | `reply` outcomes |
| 64 | Write scope refused |
| 65 to 68 | `comment` and `attest` outcomes |
| 70, 71 | `claims` outcomes |
Exits 43 (unrecognized shape) and 45 (unstated coverage) are retired.
The digest prints `shapes=NOTED` with each note, and prints
`coverage=none` or `coverage=UNKNOWN` with a `note:` line. Merge Gate
items 2 and 4 now read those fields rather than an exit code.
## Skills and Docs Changed
- `pr-review-conduct`: Merge Gate item 2 now reads coverage from
`coverage=`, and the 41 wording is updated. The promotion case keys on
`coverage=none`. Item 3's overview text is updated, and item 4 reads
`shapes=NOTED`.
- `merge-and-release` and `unattended-handoff`: the promotion case reads
`coverage=none` instead of exit 45.
- `drive-pr`: the unrecognized-shape bullet is updated.
- `repo-worktree`: names `pr_cleanup.py` and the README contract
section.
- `python-codestyle` `references/profiles.md`: names
`--with-requirements tests/requirements.txt`.
- Mirrors are regenerated with `build_dist.py`.
- GOVERNANCE.md "PR Review Etiquette",
`.github/copilot-instructions.md`, `docs/pr-reviewer-reference.md` (exit
48 is now 40), and `docs/pr-reviewer-evaluation.md` are updated.
- `scripts/README.md` gets rewritten `pr_review.py`,
`pr_review_copilot.py`, and `pr_cleanup.py` sections.
## Runner Change
The hub's tests import scripts that need markdown-it-py, so the
committed `tests/requirements.txt` lists it. Each change that adds a
library to a script's inline metadata adds it there too.
- **`.github/workflows/test-pull-request.yml`, Windows leg:** `python -m
pip install --requirement tests/requirements.txt` now runs before
`python -m unittest discover -s tests`.
- **`.github/workflows/validate-task.yml`, lint-only arm:** where a
directory carries `tests/requirements.txt`, it runs `uvx
--with-requirements tests/requirements.txt coverage@latest run -m
unittest discover -s tests`. Otherwise it runs plain `uvx
coverage@latest run ...` as before. `coverage.xml` is still written by
`uvx coverage@latest xml`.
- **The hub root does not move to the pytest-with-manifest path.**
`python_directories.shape()` counts only a `requirements*.txt` directly
in the declared directory, and `tests/requirements.txt` sits one level
down. The root stays lint-only, so there is still one runner and
unittest still collects `TestCase` classes.
- OPERATIONS.md and `scripts/README.md` give the same
`--with-requirements` form for local runs.
- `pyproject.toml` lets mypy run without the library installed, through
`ignore_missing_imports` for `markdown_it`.
## Decisions Beyond the Brief
- **Coverage from a file table stays in the gate.** Live current-format
bodies carry no `fleet-review` marker. Without the table reading, every
promotion would read `coverage=none`. The adapter returns the table's
paths, and the gate compares them with the changed files, so the
comparison needs no API read.
- **The statement carry and its compare-and-tarball plumbing are
retired.** An earlier round's partial still reads as partial on a head
that states none, so a pull request that ever had a partial round goes
to the maintainer.
- **The prose, narrative, and headline finding pairings are retired.**
`FINDINGS WITH NO THREAD` counts the round's stated open count or its
findings list beyond the open entries that link a thread on the pull
request.
- **`status` still exits 0 over a refusal.** 41 stays `wait`'s alone, as
before.
```
`repo_gate.py` ran before the develop merge. Every other result above is
from the pushed content. I also ran the adapter over 42 live Copilot
bodies from recent promotions, read-only. It placed every one with no
note.
## Local-Review Findings and Their Outcomes
Every push carried a recorded `local-strict-review` pass at the
`frontier` tier over the whole diff. There were sixteen passes in all.
- **Fixed in later pushes:**
- Partial coverage ranks worst, so an unbelievable reading beside a
stated partial cannot hide exit 42.
- A count Copilot states in prose is read only from a top-level
paragraph that opens on it. It is never read from a list item, a
blockquote, a code span, or a counted finding section. Line breaks read
as spaces. It reads as partial, full, or unknown, and
`partial_on_record` sees it. A count directly under the verdict is read
and is no headline.
- The file table is read only at the top level, outside counted finding
sections, so a table a finding quotes joins no coverage reading.
- Notes name their round, a reader failure is a note and never a
refusal, the reviewer logins come from the vocabulary, `cleanup` is
forwarded behind a leading flag, and the adapter decodes its input as
UTF-8.
- The README, GOVERNANCE.md "PR Review Etiquette", the conduct skill,
docs/host-setup.md, `spec/host-tools.json`, TODO.md, the evaluation doc,
the transport's docstring, and every skill command line now match the
code.
- The test names and docstrings name only the codes that remain.
- A reader failure names itself as the reason beside `coverage=UNKNOWN`,
and the usage text and README define UNKNOWN to include it.
- **Deferred, `introduced`, filed as #3412:** a head round reading
`unknown` beside an earlier partial reads UNKNOWN rather than 42. This
fails closed, since UNKNOWN leaves Merge Gate item 2 unsatisfied. The
last pass raised it after that push's edit budget was spent.
- **Declined as `style`:** `table_matches` using
`PurePosixPath.full_match`. It would make `[` a character class, where
the hand-built matcher keeps it literal on purpose.
- **Declined as out of scope:**
- The `#!/usr/bin/env python3` shebangs, and the write guard's remedy
text naming a bare `scripts/pr_review.py reply`. Both belong to the lane
that moved callers to `uv`.
- The profile-level "stdlib-only" wording in `python-codestyle`
`references/profiles.md`, `spec/project-types.json`, and README.md. It
describes downstream lint-only subtrees.
- **Declined by the format retirement:** the first format's bulleted `-
**Files reviewed:**` line no longer reads as coverage.
## Pre-existing Findings, Not Filed
- `host-setup/agent-safety/claude/install.py` and its README still
register and check the bare `Bash(python3 scripts/pr_review.py:*)` rule
beside the uv spelling.
## Declined
- **"Keep the statement carry":** the design retires it, it fails
closed, and no current Copilot body carries the marker.
- **"Keep an unknown-shape exit" and "keep the first-format readers":**
declined, citing the maintainer's decision for this split.

…rs (#3411)
## Summary
Restructures the prose gate into three layers and moves its data out of
code, as decided for the prose follow-ups.
- **Extract, shared.** Code and config go through the Pygments lexer the
file name or shebang selects, reading comment, documentation, and
docstring tokens. Markdown goes through markdown-it-py and its block
line maps. A file whose lexer the data declares no language for is read
as plain text, and the scope line names it.
- **Normalize, per language, from
`.github/actions/prose-gate/prose-gate.json`.** Comment markers,
documentation and help forms, trailing checker directives, docstring
section names, and nested lexes: a YAML `run:` block is lexed as bash,
and a `lambda:` key or `!lambda` tag scalar as C++, each numbered by the
file's own lines.
- **Evaluate, shared.** Each rule is one function of a text unit in
`RULE_TABLE`. The rules that lived inline in `check_file` moved out, and
the sentence boundaries share one terminator definition.
- **Data.** Rule names, defaults, and messages, the CLI, the charset
tiers, the British spelling families, `hub_hosted`, the instruction
documents, service accounts, `dupword_allow`, generated trees, the
runbook exemption, and the not-prose and tool-directive pattern lists.
The ledger test for `hub_hosted` reads the JSON.
- **Override.** A repository may carry `.prose-gate.json` at its root
with additions to the exemption lists only. Any other key, a non-list
value, or unreadable JSON refuses the run.
- **Dependencies.** PEP 723 block, `requires-python = ">=3.13"` (the
`spec/host-tools.json` floor), `markdown-it-py>=4.2.0` and
`pygments>=2.21.0`, the versions tested against as a lower bound only,
per the maintainer's ruling. A missing package or a missing
`prose-gate.json` beside the script prints one message naming `uv run
--no-project --script` and the stale `hub_fetch_run.py` snippet to
resync, then exits 1, so a downstream hook still running the gate
in-process fails with the remedy rather than a traceback. `mypy` ignores
their missing stubs in the generic validator leg, and the gate
type-checks clean against `types-Pygments` with the script's own
interpreter.
- **Two Pygments rules corrected** in subclasses rather than hand
parsing: bash's heredoc ended at any later occurrence of its label (a
`$STUB_DIR` ended a `STUB` heredoc) and read no double-quoted label, and
C#'s attribute rule swallowed a collection expression opening on its own
line, comments included.
- **#3408.** `catalog/snippets/hub_fetch_run.py` and
`scripts/prose_lint.py` run the gate through `uv run --no-project
--script` instead of `runpy`. The snippet fetches `prose-gate.json` from
the same ref beside the script. The shim answers `--help` and refuses an
unknown argument from the same data, with no uv start, and a test holds
its help equal to the gate's.
- **Tests.** One class per rule, one per language, one for Markdown, one
for the override merge, single-incident classes folded in, cases that
only exercised the replaced parser dropped, and a size ceiling of 1800
lines on `prose_lint.py`.
`prose_lint.py` is 1799 lines (from 3519), `prose-gate.json` 172.
Languages the gate reads comments in: Python (comments and docstrings),
bash and `sh` (with the corrected heredoc), TOML, Terraform, Makefile,
Ruby, Caddyfile, C, C++, Arduino, C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, JSON,
JSON5, JSONC and `.code-workspace` (as JSON), CSS and SCSS (as CSS),
HTML, XML and the MSBuild project formats (as XML), PowerShell, INI,
`.editorconfig`, `.conf`, YAML (with the nested bash and C++ lexes),
Dockerfile, git pattern files and extensionless scripts (as bash), and
Markdown through markdown-it-py.
Closes#3408

A wider comparison ran the old and the new `check_file` over every rule,
opt-in ones included, on the committed trees of 23 local fleet clones,
6112 files. Every difference falls in one of these classes:
- **The old parser misread, the new one reads correctly (fewer
findings):** comments inside a C# raw string literal, CSS and script
inside HTML files read as HTML comments, and a minified JavaScript
bundle's template literals.
- **The old parser missed comments a lexer finds (more findings):** a
shell script where the old quote tracking lost its place, and ESPHome
`lambda` C++ comments, which the nested lex now reads by design.
- **Heredoc bodies in four extensionless shell scripts (fewer
findings):** their bodies are remote scripts whose `#` lines the old
parser read because its heredoc detection failed on them. Bash reads a
heredoc body as data, and so does the gate now. In a YAML `run:` block
the body is still read as code, which keeps the workflow verdicts the
old YAML reading gave.
- **Opt-in `sentence-length` and `sentence-split` only:**
markdown-it-py's CommonMark blocks differ from the old approximation at
a setext underline under a multi-line paragraph, a table needing its
delimiter row, and the `<search>` and `<source>` block names. The shared
sentence boundary now carries the ellipsis guard the comment rules
already had.

## Local review
Seven recorded `local-strict-review` passes, the last three clean. A
hosted review raised five findings on 0caa9ad, each now answered: two
fixed in bd12813 (a blank override entry is refused, and the help test
turns color off on both sides), two fixed by the merge of develop (the
test requirements), and one declined under the maintainer's transition
ruling. Fixed from the first two: a comment after a block indicator
emptying the script under it, a shift `<< 2` read as a heredoc,
multi-line HTML comment lines read as paragraphs, inline comment line
numbers, the `generated_trees` wording, an unused constant, a shebang
assignment read as the interpreter, the line-rule-only sweep lexing
every file (the warn-only `charset-unknown` sweep went from about 9 s to
1.4 s), stale statements in `spec/host-tools.json`,
`tests/test_repo_gate.py`, and the snippet, and the `pr_review.py`
block-name cross-check, restored against markdown-it-py's list.
Introduced findings left after the local edit budget, each with its
outcome:
- **A run-block heredoc body with an apostrophe** (`didn't`) opens a
bash single-quoted string that runs to the next `'` in the script,
hiding the comments between. The old YAML reading did not. No current
fleet file shows it in the comparison above. Reading the body as data
instead would lose the inline-script comments workflows carry today.
Deferred to #3413.
- **An inline comment after a code span holding its own text** is
numbered on the code span's line, so a comment rule's finding on it
moves one line up and a diff touching only its real line drops it. The
fix is skipping `code_inline` children in the line search. Deferred to
#3414.
- **The shim help test** compared colored output under `FORCE_COLOR` on
Python 3.14. Fixed in bd12813.
The test suite's packages come from `tests/requirements.txt`, which this
branch extends with `pygments` and raises `markdown-it-py` to the tested
floor.
Ruled by the maintainer: the downstream transition window is accepted,
the fleet snippet being resynced right after the promotion, and the
packages carry lower bounds only, the two Pygments patches refusing to
load loudly if a release respells either stock rule.
Declined: a shared copy of the parser-building loop between the gate and
the shim. The shim exists to answer `--help` without the gate's
packages, so it cannot import the gate, and the new help-equality test
holds the two copies together.
## Pre-existing findings, not filed
- `sentence-length` (opt-in) reports 152 sentences over the cap across
the files this branch touches, most of them in text the branch moved
rather than wrote.

## Summary
Decision (ptr727, 2026-10-23) on #3391 item 4 follow-up, unrecognized
shapes hold until acknowledged.
If the adapter cannot place a part of a Copilot review body on a round
covering the head, that part now holds the merge gate. The hold stays
until an owner, member, or collaborator acknowledges it with written
outcomes. Before this change the part printed `shapes=NOTED` and decided
no exit code. Copilot's threaded findings are safe under any format,
because threads come from GraphQL. The hold therefore targets a finding
that exists only in the body, inside a layout the adapter does not
place.
- **Adapter** (`scripts/pr_review_copilot.py`): `Reading.unplaced`
carries each part the reader cannot place, together with its own raw
text:
- For an unmarked layout or a reader failure, the part is the whole
body.
- For an unknown collapsed section, it is the `<details>` block.
- For an unknown top-level heading or label, it runs to the next
heading, label, table, top-level HTML block, effort tail, coverage
statement, or placed section.
`fingerprint()` is the first 12 hex characters of a SHA-256 over the
set's sorted text. `excerpt()` cuts a part to 12 lines of 160
characters. These remain plain notes, since none of them carries text a
finding could sit in:
- an empty body
- an unbelievable coverage count
- a label nested in a list or in a placed section
- **Gate** (`scripts/pr_review.py`): `shape_hold()` gathers the unplaced
parts of every round covering the head. It then looks for an
acknowledgment: a comment carrying `<!-- fleet-shape-ack:
fingerprint=<fp> -->` as an HTML line of its own outside a fence, with
prose beside it. The comment must come from an `OWNER`, `MEMBER`, or
`COLLABORATOR`, and must not be minimized.
- `trusted_comments()` reads both this marker and the attestation
marker, so the trust and placement rule lives in one place.
- The digest prints `shapes=HELD` and an `UNPLACED ON THE HEAD
(fingerprint=<fp>)` block holding each part's note and excerpt. Once the
hold is answered it prints `shapes=ACKNOWLEDGED`.
- A part on an earlier round still prints under `REVIEWER OUTPUT NOTED`.
- **Acknowledgment**: `pr_review.py comment <n> --repo <o/r>
--fingerprint <fp> --body <outcomes>` posts the outcomes with the marker
beneath them.
- This extends `comment`, the alternative the design allowed, instead of
adding an `acknowledge` subcommand. Its parser wiring alone pushed
`pr_review.py` past its 3,000-line ceiling. The file is now 2,988 lines.
- Posting does not check the fingerprint first. The local review ruled
that check over-hardening for a trusted input. A wrong fingerprint posts
a comment that clears nothing, and `status` keeps printing the held one.
- **Skills**:
- pr-review-conduct Merge Gate item 4 is rewritten in place.
- Its promotion-merge bullet names the hold.
- Its "Escalate to the maintainer when" list gains one case: an unplaced
item that cannot be told to be a finding, escalated with its raw text
quoted.
- drive-pr's unrecognized-shape bullet matches the new item 4.
- Mirrors are regenerated.
### Exit code
The hold reuses `50`, and no new code is added. `50` already means that
a finding the round covering the head names only in its body awaits an
outcome, which is the uncounted-verdict headline. An unplaced part is
the same condition. The status line is
`status=UNPLACED_PARTS_UNACKNOWLEDGED`. The note `wait` prints beside a
`50` while checks settle now covers both causes.
### Digest wording
The fixture below is constructed, and `<fp>` stands for the printed
fingerprint.
```text
repo=o/r pr=7 head=aaaaaaaa ... shapes=HELD ...
UNPLACED ON THE HEAD (fingerprint=<fp>): a round covering the head carries text the reader cannot place, where a finding can sit. Read each part whole in the review body, the excerpt only locating it, and give each item an outcome, fixed with its SHA, declined with evidence, or listed as pre-existing in the PR body. Post them with `comment 7 --repo o/r --fingerprint <fp> --body <outcomes>`
a collapsed section this reader has no spelling for: `confidence notes (1)`
<details>
<summary>Confidence notes (1)</summary>
The retry bound is off by one.
</details>
status=UNPLACED_PARTS_UNACKNOWLEDGED the round covering the head carries text the reader cannot place, under UNPLACED ON THE HEAD. Acknowledging fingerprint <fp> with `comment --fingerprint` and each item's outcome clears this code
```
### Merge Gate item 4 as written
```text
4. Every part of a round covering the head that the tooling could not place is answered. The
digest prints an excerpt of each under `UNPLACED ON THE HEAD` with a fingerprint for the set.
It reads `shapes=HELD`, and `status` and `wait` exit `50`.
- Read each part whole in the review body, since the excerpt only locates it. Give every item
in it item 3's outcome: fixed with its SHA, declined with evidence, or listed as pre-existing
in the pull request body.
- Post the outcomes with `pr_review.py comment <number> --repo <owner>/<repo> --fingerprint
<fp> --body <outcomes>`. One from an owner, member, or collaborator clears the hold,
`shapes=ACKNOWLEDGED`. New unplaced text on a new head owes a new acknowledgment.
- The spelling is a data edit to the matching `scripts/reviewers/*.json` in the hub plus one
fixture. Whoever acknowledged the part makes it in a pull request of its own, never an issue.
- An item that reads as neither a finding nor not one goes to the maintainer with its raw text
quoted, per "Escalate to the maintainer when" below.
A part on an earlier round, or a label nested in a placed part, prints under `REVIEWER OUTPUT
NOTED` and decides no exit code. Read that block rather than the `shapes=` field, which names a
head hold first. Read each such part by hand, and give any finding in it item 3's outcome.
```

The tests use constructed fixtures only, and none makes a live API call.
They cover each case below:
- A noted shape on the head holds, exit `50` and `shapes=HELD`, with its
excerpt and fingerprint printed.
- An acknowledgment by `OWNER`, `MEMBER`, or `COLLABORATOR` clears the
hold, exit `0` and `shapes=ACKNOWLEDGED`.
- An acknowledgment by `CONTRIBUTOR`, `FIRST_TIME_CONTRIBUTOR`, `NONE`,
or no association does not clear it.
- A marker with no outcome, a marker inside a fence, and a minimized
acknowledgment do not clear it.
- A new head with new unplaced text re-holds under a new fingerprint.
- The same unplaced text on a new head at another effort level keeps its
fingerprint and its acknowledgment.
- `comment --fingerprint` posts the body with the marker the gate reads.
Each push carries a recorded adversarial local strict-review pass at the
`frontier` tier, attested on this pull request. The first push spent its
edit budget, so it listed the findings below. The second push fixed
every one of them in `c6896b72`, rewrapped in `5be9db87`, and the review
threads that raised the same points are answered with that SHA. The
final pass on `5be9db87` raised two `style` findings, each declined
because it is a preference. One is a 26-word sentence under the opt-in
`sentence-length` check, and the other is a 105-character docstring
line, which ruff does not enforce.
### Local review findings, fixed in c6896b7
1. `scripts/pr_review_copilot.py` `placed()`: a bold section-count line
such as `**0 open findings**` is not a stop, so an unplaced label before
it absorbs the count line and its list. The same unplaced text then
takes a different fingerprint depending on that line.
2. `scripts/pr_review_copilot.py` `stops`: a top-level non-file table or
a mid-body HTML comment ends a part, and the text after it lands in no
part. That text is neither excerpted nor fingerprinted.
3. `scripts/pr_review_copilot.py` `_read`: a heading or label inside an
unrecognized top-level `<details>` becomes a second part, which
duplicates text the section's own part already carries.
4. `.agents/skills/pr-review-conduct/SKILL.md` and `scripts/README.md`:
they say "a label nested in a placed part", but the code makes a label
nested anywhere a note, a top-level list or blockquote included.
5. `scripts/pr_review.py` `attestation` docstring and the README attest
paragraph: neither says that a minimized attestation no longer counts.
6. `scripts/pr_review_copilot.py`: the module docstring says every note
carries text, and the comment on `read`'s `except` still calls a reader
failure a note.
7. `docs/pr-reviewer-evaluation.md`: it said a shape the adapter cannot
place "stays a note in the digest rather than an exit".
8. `tests/test_pr_review_copilot.py`: `TestUnplaced` was inserted
between two `TestNotes` methods, which moved
`test_a_pathological_body_reads_in_bounded_time` under the wrong class.
## Pre-existing findings, not filed
- `scripts/README.md:190` and `scripts/pr_review.py:17` each hold a
31-word sentence that predates this change, on a line the diff touched
(`sentence-length`, opt-in).
- A top-level prose paragraph after the headline, carrying no label and
no heading, becomes neither a note nor an unplaced part. A finding
written there holds nothing, and that was already true before this
change.
- `scripts/handoff.py` keeps its own `WRITERS` set and its own
trusted-and-shown comment filter, the same job `trusted_comments` now
does here. Sharing one primitive in `gh_graphql.py` is a change of its
own.

…ry (#3416)
Implements the maintainer's decision of 2026-10-23 on #3391's follow-ups
for the audit, in his words: "audit, agree on moving tests to tests and
that should be consistent for the fleet to have tests and keep them in
tests, no hand written parser when a field tested and maintained
versions readily exists, so switch it and proceed".
## What Changes
### Tests Move to tests/
- `_selftest_cases`, the inline matrix in `spec/audit.py`, is now
`tests/test_audit_helpers.py`, a unittest module with one `subTest` per
case.
- The temporary git repositories are built by helpers on the test
classes.
- The `globals()` swaps are now `unittest.mock.patch` calls.
- The invalid-byte probe tests move out of `tests/test_audit.py` along
with the probe.
- `--selftest` stays, as a smoke check of each helper family that runs
in under a second.
### Parsers
- `spec/audit.py` declares `pyyaml` and `markdown-it-py` in PEP 723
inline metadata.
- **YAML:** workflow jobs, contract tokens, the `python-directories`
input, the concurrency group, the schedule gate, and `dependabot.yml`'s
ecosystems are now read from the parsed document.
- A job's verbatim region is cut at the parser's own marks.
- Contract tokens are matched against a view of the parsed job, indented
two spaces per level, with block-scalar bodies left out except an `if:`
condition.
- **Markdown:** headings, fenced blocks, the README title and intro,
link stripping, and the License column are now read from markdown-it-py
tokens.
- **Text scans that stay:** link definitions, image references, and tool
rows are still read as text. A parsed link keeps its target but drops
the reference name and position those checks read, and a comment beside
each scan says so.
- **`pyproject.toml`:** the audit reads only whether the file is
present, never its content, so there was no read to move to `tomllib`.
### The One Hand-Written Reader That Stays
The fence step and the `## ` region reading are still hand-written. They
now live in `spec/carried_text.py`, which uses the standard library
only.
- **What shares it:** the audit and all three scripts below use
`fence_step`. The audit and `scripts/carry.py` also use `normalize`, and
the audit uses `extract_section` and `strip_sections`.
- **Why it stays hand-written:** `scripts/carry.py`,
`scripts/build_dist.py`, and `scripts/canonical_review.py` run under a
plain `python3`, in CI and from the host menus, and carry.py writes the
verbatim regions the audit then hashes. The four tools must split a
document at the same boundaries, so moving the audit alone onto
markdown-it-py would let carry.py write a region the audit reads as
drift.
- **Follow-up:** a later lane moves the region reading of all four tools
onto markdown-it-py together, along with the switch of their callers to
`uv run --no-project --script`.
### Registry
- `spec/checks.json` registers one entry per check: its id, family, a
one-line description, the spec file it reads, its scope, and whether it
runs on the hub itself.
- `audit_repo` walks the registry in order and calls `check_<id>` for
each entry. It runs the per-file checks file by file, so findings keep
their order.
- Hub special cases that apply to a single check are now the registry's
`hub` flag. The hub's verbatim-section excision and the hub argument to
the baseline read stay in code, since neither belongs to one check.
- The suppression ids and the driftNote id parse now resolve against the
registry. `CHECK_ID_RE` moves into `spec/validate.py`.
- `spec/validate.py` now checks:
- the registry's shape;
- that every file check has a baseline check before it in its run, on
the hub's filtered run too;
- that no check carries an unknown key, and that only a repo check sets
`ground: false`;
- that every id a driftNote in `registry/repos.json` names is defined.
### Size
Trimming the docstrings reached the ceiling only by dropping what a
caller needs, so the Markdown reading and README checks move to
`spec/audit_markdown.py`. That family depends on nothing else in the
audit. Each docstring keeps what a caller needs: what the function
returns, what None or an empty result means, and what it raises.
| File | Lines | Ceiling in `tests/test_audit_size.py` |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `spec/audit.py` | 2442 | 3000 |
| `spec/audit_markdown.py` | 665 | 1000 |
`spec/checks.json` registers 33 checks.
### Callers
- `spec/workflow_reuse.py` and `spec/fidelity_honesty.py` import the
audit, so they declare the same libraries. Their usage lines, RESYNC.md,
and docs/reusable-workflows.md now run them through `uv run --no-project
--script`.
- `tests/requirements.txt` gains `pyyaml>=6`. The merge with develop
keeps #3411's lines beside it.
- mypy's missing-import override adds `yaml`.
### Validate Action
The coverage step now runs the helper suite, with the suite's
requirements installed, in place of `spec/audit.py --selftest`:
```sh
uvx --with-requirements tests/requirements.txt coverage@latest run --source=scripts,spec,host-setup -m unittest discover -s tests -p test_audit_helpers.py
```
`uvx` alone reads no script's inline metadata, so
`spec/workflow_reuse.py --selftest` gets the same `--with-requirements`.
OPERATIONS.md's local commands match.
## Before and After Audit Comparison
The full sweep, covering every cataloged repository plus the fleet
membership check, ran once at develop f646430 and once at this branch's
head. The finding lists match line for line, apart from the run stamp.
Before the parser commit, the hub plus PlexCleaner, ESPHome-Config, and
Blog also matched at 7862c48.
Where a parser now reads a shape the hand-written reader refused, the
helper suite asserts the new reading. None of these shapes occurs in the
audited repositories.
- A folded or continued concurrency group, or one written as a flow
mapping, is now read rather than reported as unreadable. A sequence is
still refused.
- A folded `python-directories` value, or a double-quoted one with
escapes, is now read the way GitHub passes it, rather than refused.
- A workflow that does not parse as YAML produces one `interface` DRIFT
saying its contract is unread, rather than one finding per missing job.
- A `[text][ref]` in the README tagline counts as a link only where
`ref` is defined, which is how GitHub renders it.
## Verification
Each command below ran in the worktree after the last commit.
- `uvx ruff@latest format --check .` -> `269 files already formatted`
- `uvx ruff@latest check .` -> `All checks passed!`
- `uvx mypy@latest` -> `Success: no issues found in 75 source files`
- `npx markdownlint-cli2` over the changed Markdown -> `Summary: 0
error(s)`
- `python -m unittest discover -s tests`, with tests/requirements.txt
installed -> `Ran 2837 tests ... OK (skipped=7)`
- `uv run --no-project --script spec/audit.py --selftest` -> `SELFTEST
PASS`
- `python3 scripts/prose_lint.py . --allow-comments --diff
origin/develop` -> no violations. Without `--allow-comments`, every
reported line is `comment-added`, which is why this pull request carries
the `comments` label.
- `python3 scripts/repo_gate.py` -> `composite-actions`, `eol`,
`eol-coverage`, and `sha-pin` all report 0 issues, exit 0.
- `python3 spec/validate.py` -> `Spec validation OK: 22 cataloged repos
classify cleanly. ...`
- `python3 scripts/build_dist.py --check` -> `Generated skill
distributions are current.` It ran under a plain `python3`, as did
`scripts/canonical_review.py report`.
## Local Review
`local-strict-review` passes ran at the `frontier` tier over the whole
branch diff. Each pass was recorded before the push it covers, and each
push is attested on this pull request. The fixes they drove:
- **Workflow reading:**
- Contract tokens anchored on a newline match a job's first key.
- A workflow is parsed once.
- An unparseable workflow produces one `interface` finding.
- An unparseable `dependabot.yml` produces one `dependabot` finding.
- The concurrency refusal names the shapes the parser actually refuses.
- **driftNote ids:** an id the catalog defines keeps its catalog
reading, and only an id spec/checks.json alone defines reads as
evaluated. This keeps the fleet sweep identical to develop.
- **Taglines:** a link-free tagline is returned unchanged, an image
counts as markup, and a code span is taken from the source as written.
- **Registry validation:** `spec/validate.py` refuses:
- an unknown key;
- a `ground: false` outside a repo check;
- a file check with no baseline check before it, on the hub's filtered
run too;
- a malformed id or suppression type. It reports that one rather than
raising on it.
- **Tests:**
- New tests pin which checks skip the hub, the hub's own run, and the
baseline slot each file check reads.
- Others pin `registry.driftnotes` running last, `split_jobs` at a
sibling key and at a file with no final newline, and the schedule gate
reading every `on:` shape.
- A declared Dependabot ecosystem is tested, and the smoke self-test is
gated by a test.
- `test_strip_md_links_stays_linear` checks a ratio rather than
wall-clock time, since CI's coverage-traced run took 1.08 s against the
old 1 s bound. It holds 20000 brackets under 8x the time for 5000, plus
0.05 s of slack. A quadratic reader fails that check unless it takes
under about 6 ms at 5000 brackets, and the old wall-clock bound passed
such a reader too.
- **Pointers:** every line that invokes the audit, or a script that
imports it, now spells `uv run --no-project --script`. Every pointer to
a moved function names its new home. The trim's dropped rationales are
restored as one line each. OPERATIONS.md says which tools share which
`spec/carried_text.py` primitive.
Declined with evidence:
- The validate action's helper-suite run duplicates the Python leg, and
`--selftest` stays. The brief fixes both ("runs the test module under
coverage instead", "`--selftest` stays as a smoke check").
- `spec/validate.py` refuses a driftNote whose parenthesized dotted
token names no check, and spec/checks.json carries `family`,
`description`, and `spec`. The brief requires both.
- The following stay as they read today, since a full sweep of every
cataloged repository matches develop and GitHub renders each case the
same way:
- markdown-it reads a heading inside an HTML block, a fence, or a
container differently from the old line regexes;
- a `## X ##` closing sequence reads differently for presence than for
verbatim extraction;
- an undefined `[x][ref]` in a tagline reads as literal text.
The follow-up lane that moves all region and link reading onto
markdown-it-py removes the remaining split.
- `split_jobs` returns `{}` for a flow-style `jobs:` mapping, exactly as
develop's reader did, and no contract declares `verbatimJobs`.
## Pre-Existing Findings, Not Filed
- `--check sentence-length` reports pre-existing sentences that this
branch only touched to rename a path: docs/reusable-workflows.md:40,
scripts/build_dist.py:198, :202, :321, scripts/canonical_review.py:157,
scripts/carry.py:418, :492, and tests/test_build_dist.py:949.
- `spec/validate.py`'s `contains_description_markdown_link` still
matches brackets by hand.
- `CHECK_ID_RE` reads any parenthesized lowercase dotted token as a
check id, a file name such as `(cspell.json)` included.
- `scripts/canonical_review.py` and `scripts/carry.py` each write the
unfenced `## ` predicate inline rather than calling
`spec/carried_text.py`. The follow-up lane moves them.
- `tests/test_audit_size.py` follows the shape of the two size tests
already in tests/. Those two disagree on `assertLess` versus
`assertLessEqual`.
- `tests/workflow_steps.py` and `tests/test_docker_task_workflow.py`
read workflows by indentation, where PyYAML is now available to the
suite.
- The `reports/*.md` headers still print `python3` for their generators.
The generator strings now say `uv run`, so the next regeneration
rewrites the headers.
- `scripts/carry.py` keeps its own region reading (`section_span`,
`comparable_region`) beside `spec/carried_text.py`. The follow-up lane
covers it.

Prose-gate execution
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Gate configuration and action .github/actions/prose-gate/action.yml, .github/actions/prose-gate/prose-gate.json
The action captures the gate path and provenance, sets up uv, and runs the gate using a new JSON configuration for rules, parsing, file discovery, and messages.
Local and fetched runners scripts/prose_lint.py, catalog/snippets/hub_fetch_run.py, .husky/pre-commit, tests/test_hub_fetch_run.py, tests/test_pre_commit_hook.py, .github/actions/validate/action.yml, GOVERNANCE.md
The local shim and fetched-script runner invoke the gate through uv. The fetched runner retrieves the configuration from the script’s selected ref and returns the subprocess status.
Audit and repository validation
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Shared Markdown text helpers spec/carried_text.py, scripts/build_dist.py, scripts/canonical_review.py, scripts/carry.py, tests/test_build_dist.py, OPERATIONS.md
Shared helpers normalize text, track Markdown fences, and extract or remove H2 sections. Existing scripts now use these helpers instead of audit-module functions.
README and description audit spec/audit_markdown.py, spec/resolve_description.py, spec/validate.py
A new audit module checks README sections, links, third-party tools, shields, and descriptions, including live repository and Docker Hub descriptions.
The validator checks catalog fields, scopes, suppression types, ordering, and drift-note references. Tests cover valid and malformed catalog entries.
Agent safety guard
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Guard model and scope host-setup/agent-safety/README.md, host-setup/agent-safety/claude/README.md, docs/host-setup.md
The documented guard model now describes a simple lexer and revised checks for GitHub writes, Git operations, primary-checkout mutations, and unbounded waits. The documentation also describes limits for unread command shapes.
Permissions and validation host-setup/agent-safety/claude/install.py, host-setup/agent-safety/claude/test_install.py, tests/test_guard_size.py
The installer adds an allow rule for the uv cleanup command. The linked-worktree alias test is removed, and a test adds a guard line-count ceiling.
Script runtime and test conventions
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Runtime and parser guidance CODESTYLE.md, .agents/skills/python-codestyle/SKILL.md, .agents/skills/shell-codestyle/SKILL.md, tests/requirements.txt, pyproject.toml

Command and test updates host-setup/menu.*, spec/fidelity_honesty.py, spec/workflow_reuse.py, AUDIT.md, RESYNC.md, OPERATIONS.md, .github/workflows/*, tests/*
Audit and report commands switch to uv, and workflows provide test requirements. Tests and documentation update their references to the revised runners and audit test entry points.
ptr727/ESPHome-NonRoot#348 — The issue concerns prose-gate execution through hub_fetch_run.py and scripts/prose_lint.py, which this pull request changes.
The promotion changes tooling, docs and runner conventions with no established production-impacting defect. A few minor documentation and test-strength fixes are worth making before or shortly after merge.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Only #3408 is directly linked and active (open). Its coding requirements are met by the summary evidence:
[#3408] catalog/snippets/hub_fetch_run.py: the runner fetches the prose-gate JSON companion and the gate script, then runs the fetched script in a subprocess with uv run --no-project --script instead of runpy.run_path. The subprocess exit code becomes the runner result. It returns 1 when uv is unavailable or a fetch fails. It adds PROSE_GATE_PROVENANCE to the subprocess environment when absent. tests/test_hub_fetch_run.py is updated to cover exit-code pass-through, the uv invocation and argument forwarding, and a missing uv (return 1 with an error message).
[#3408] scripts/prose_lint.py (local shim): the shim loads the action-owned gate JSON to define and validate its CLI arguments before it starts uv. It runs the gate with the original arguments and returns the gate exit code. If uv is missing, it writes an error to stderr and exits 1. Because argument definition happens in the shim, --help is answered by the shim, which satisfies the issue's CLI-contract condition. The PR objectives state a help-equality test exists. The summary does not show that test directly, so it was not independently verified.
[#3408] Ordering: the PEP 723 gate and its uv-based callers land in the same promotion, so the issue's 'before, or with' condition is met.
No non-coding requirements exist in #3408.
No repository inspection was made. Evidence is the supplied change summary and PR objectives.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The PR links only #3408. Many changes have no connection to #3408, which covers only the prose-gate runners (hub_fetch_run.py and the scripts/prose_lint.py shim) and their tests. The PR description attributes these other changes to #3407, #3409, #3410, #3415, and #3416. They include:
Audit restructure: spec/audit_markdown.py (+665), spec/checks.json, spec/carried_text.py, spec/validate.py check-registry validation, tests/test_audit_size.py, and the re-pointing of build_dist.py, canonical_review.py, and carry.py.
Host setup: host-setup/menu.ps1 and menu.sh helpers, docs/host-setup.md, spec/host-tools.json.
Repository-wide uv run --no-project --script spelling changes in docs, skills, and workflows that do not call the prose gate.
None of these changes implements an objective of #3408.
Resolution
Remove the unrelated changes from this PR, or link each group to the issue it implements and justify its inclusion. Recommended split: keep #3408 changes (hub_fetch_run.py, scripts/prose_lint.py, tests/test_hub_fetch_run.py, tests/test_pre_commit_hook.py, the prose-gate action, and the uv invocation in the pre-commit hook and VS Code tasks that run the gate). Move the other groups to the promotion or PR that their own linked issues cover. Update the PR description so it no longer says this PR closes #3408 unless the remaining changes all serve that issue.

⚠️Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Bound the prose-gate subprocess.
If uv stalls while resolving dependencies or running the gate, this CLI waits indefinitely. Set a suitable timeout and handle subprocess.TimeoutExpired as a gate failure. Apply the same limit to catalog/snippets/hub_fetch_run.py Line 148. Based on learnings, Python subprocess calls should have a timeout so a hung child cannot block the caller indefinitely.

Correct the bare-Python test instruction.
If a lint-only test imports a script that needs the libraries in tests/requirements.txt, bare python3 on a clean host cannot run that test. The new coverage instruction on Lines 74-75 supplies those libraries, but this paragraph still says the tests run with nothing installed. State the dependency requirement and give the corresponding local test command.

#3418)
## Summary
Fixes the review findings on the develop -> main promotion #3417 that
hold on content it carries.
- **drive-pr escalation.** `.agents/skills/drive-pr/SKILL.md` "Stop and
Ask" sends an unplaced item to the maintainer only where it cannot be
told to be a finding or not. That matches `pr-review-conduct` Merge Gate
item 4 and "Escalate to the maintainer when". The old wording also
escalated an item that is plainly not a finding.
- **Test dependencies in prose.** `docs/host-setup.md` names
`tests/requirements.txt` beside the inline script metadata, in the
Python passage and in the gates-and-tests row. The python-codestyle
profiles reference says a `unittest` suite needs no test runner
installed, rather than that it runs under bare `python3` with nothing
installed. Its long sentence is split into three.
- **uvx boundary in the release-guard test.**
`tests/test_release_guards.py` asserts the lint-only runner's whole
command, `uvx "${extra[@]}" coverage@latest run -m unittest discover -s
tests`. The promotion's version matched `coverage@latest run ...` alone,
which passes with the `uvx` launcher gone.
## Local review
Two recorded passes at the `frontier` tier. The first found one
`introduced` sentence-length finding on the profiles sentence this
change rewrote, fixed in the second commit. The second pass covers the
head.
## Dropped findings
- `docs/host-setup.md:29`, the 32-word sentence on the linters needing
only `docker`, `style` on text this change did not touch.
## Pre-existing findings, not filed
- `.agents/skills/python-codestyle/references/profiles.md:50` calls the
lint-only profile "stdlib-only utility scripts", while the same file and
`validate-task.yml` provide for a lint-only `tests/requirements.txt`. A
stale claim on text this change did not touch, `pre-existing`.
## Verification
- `uv run --no-project --with-requirements tests/requirements.txt python
-m unittest discover -s tests` -> `Ran 2856 tests`, `OK (skipped=7)`.
- `python3 scripts/build_dist.py --check` -> `Generated skill
distributions are current.`
- `uv run --no-project --script scripts/prose_lint.py --diff
origin/develop` -> no violations.
- The pre-commit hook ran ruff, mypy, the prose gate, and the EOL gate
clean on both commits.

Answers to the findings in the body of the CodeRabbit review on c66778b2. They sit in its "Additional comments" block (57), most of which are LGTM!. These are the entries that are not.
scripts/prose_lint.py:29-31, "Bound the prose-gate subprocess. If uv stalls while resolving dependencies or running the gate, this CLI waits indefinitely." No change needed. The shim is a foreground pass-through. The child inherits stdio, so its output streams live and the caller can interrupt it. The caller is a maintainer's terminal, the pre-commit hook, or a CI step, and the CI job carries its own timeout. No repository rule asks a foreground pass-through to bound its child. A fixed bound would end a legitimate whole-tree run at an arbitrary point. The same holds for catalog/snippets/hub_fetch_run.py line 148.
.agents/skills/python-codestyle/references/profiles.md:63-65, "Correct the bare-Python test instruction." Fixed in 262d04f (Fix Promotion Review Findings on Escalation, Test Deps, and uvx Assert #3418). The sentence says a unittest suite needs no test runner installed. The libraries come from tests/requirements.txt, which the same paragraph names.
pyproject.toml:19-23, the note that CI type-checks with mypy and [tool.pyright] serves the editor. No change needed. It states that split rather than asking for a change.
docs/fleet-map.md:202, "Keep the TestDeadPathRule reference." No change needed. It confirms the reference is current.
host-setup/agent-safety/claude/README.md:313, "The cited file does not contain this paragraph." No change needed. It notes that the review anchored to the wrong file, and the text it means sits in docs/host-setup.md.

## Summary
Fixes the finding the second Copilot round on the develop -> main
promotion #3417 raised against `scripts/pr_review_copilot.py`.
The prose coverage path in `_read` cut each captured count to
`COUNT_DIGITS` characters before comparing. A body saying `Copilot
reviewed 12345 out of 12345 changed files.` therefore read as `full`. So
did `12340 out of 12349`, a partial review, which satisfied Merge Gate
item 2 on a false reading. The marker path already read an over-long
count as `unknown`.
- **One primitive for both paths.** `count_state(got, of)` reads a
reviewed-of-changed pair as `full`, `partial`, or `unknown`. It returns
`unknown` where either count is longer than `COUNT_DIGITS` or `got`
exceeds `of`. The marker path and the prose path both call it. The prose
path keeps its "cannot believe" note on `unknown`.
- **Tests.** `test_a_count_stated_in_a_paragraph_of_its_own_is_read`
gains both five-digit rows, each expecting `unknown` with the note. On
develop's code both rows fail with `'unknown' != 'full'`.
## Local review
One recorded pass at the `frontier` tier over the head found nothing. It
checked that `int()` on the `\d+` captures cannot raise, and that no
other helper compares a reviewed count with a changed count.
## Verification
- `uv run --no-project --with-requirements tests/requirements.txt python
-m unittest discover -s tests` -> `Ran 2856 tests`, `OK (skipped=7)`.
- The new test module against develop's `scripts/pr_review_copilot.py`
-> `FAILED (failures=2)`, both new rows reading `full`.
- `uvx ruff@latest check`, `uvx ruff@latest format --check`, and `uvx
mypy@latest` -> clean.

This generator now writes uv run --no-project --script spec/fidelity_honesty.py --report, but the tracked reports/divergences.md still identifies python3 spec/fidelity_honesty.py --report as its generator. Because the report is the checked-in burn-down output, the promotion leaves its reproduction command inconsistent with the supported invocation.

[P2] Regenerate the checked-in workflow report
This generator now writes uv run --no-project --script spec/workflow_reuse.py --report, but the tracked reports/workflow-reuse.md still identifies python3 spec/workflow_reuse.py --report as its generator. The report is marked as generated and checked in, so leaving it unchanged makes the documented reproduction command stale.
spec/fidelity_honesty.py:297, "Regenerate the checked-in divergence report ... the tracked reports/divergences.md still identifies python3 spec/fidelity_honesty.py --report as its generator." Disproven. The line is the provenance of the run that wrote the file, and it was true of that run. reports/divergences.md was last written at f1c07fa, where spec/fidelity_honesty.py carries no # /// script block (git show f1c07fa0:spec/fidelity_honesty.py | grep -c '^# /// script' prints 0). So python3 ran it. The file says "do not hand-edit", and the next regeneration writes the new spelling from line 297.
spec/workflow_reuse.py:208, "Regenerate the checked-in workflow report ... the tracked reports/workflow-reuse.md still identifies python3 spec/workflow_reuse.py --report as its generator." Disproven on the same grounds. The line stamps its run, "at hub ddaeefb4", and git show ddaeefb4:spec/workflow_reuse.py | grep -c '^# /// script' prints 0. Regenerating either report is a fresh fleet measurement, a separate act from this promotion.
## Summary
Fixes the finding the third Copilot round on the develop -> main
promotion #3417 raised against `catalog/snippets/hub_fetch_run.py`,
under the maintainer's ruling on it.
Where the API lookup of `main`'s commit failed, the snippet fetched
`prose-gate.json` and `prose_lint.py` from the moving `main` ref in
separate requests. The two could then come from different commits,
pairing a new vocabulary with an old parser. That happens when a commit
lands between the requests or when the raw CDN serves one file from
cache.
- **A second lookup.** `lookup_via_git()` runs `git ls-remote
https://github.com/ptr727/ProjectTemplate refs/heads/main` under
`LOOKUP_TIMEOUT`, with `GIT_TERMINAL_PROMPT=0`. `resolve_main_commit()`
calls it only after the API lookup fails. It accepts exactly one
`<sha>\trefs/heads/main` line, and every other shape returns a named
cause.
- **One commit for every file.** Either resolved commit names the ref
both files are fetched at, so the script and its data always pair. The
provenance label names that commit.
- **The documented fail-open stays.** Where neither lookup resolves, one
stderr line names both causes and the gate runs against `main`. The
docstring says why: a hook with no network cannot fetch the gate at all,
and the CI gate is the enforcement.
- **Prose.** `GOVERNANCE.md` "Running the Linters Locally (Known-Working
Invocations)" and the husky and pre-commit snippet READMEs name the `git
ls-remote` call beside the API lookup.
## Tests
Constructed in `tests/test_hub_fetch_run.py`, with the network and `git`
stubbed:
- `test_git_fallback_pins_the_script_and_its_data_to_one_commit`: a
rate-limited API lookup with a resolving `git ls-remote` fetches both
files at the git commit, in order, and prints nothing.
- `test_git_fallback_is_not_run_when_the_api_resolves`, and
`test_lookup_only_for_the_prose_gate` asserting no git call for another
script.
- `test_fallback_causes_print_a_line_and_the_gate_still_runs` asserts
the git cause in the one line, and both files fetched at `main`.
- `GitLookupTests` covers the accepted line, the command, timeout, and
prompt setting, and each failure shape. Those are a non-zero exit, a
missing `git`, a timeout, and unexpected output (empty, a short hash,
two lines, upper case).
## Local review
Three recorded passes at the `frontier` tier, the edit budget spent on
the second round.
- The first pass found four, and 03665d5 fixes three. Those are a mypy
redefinition of `sha`, and a Windows wait on a remote helper's stderr
pipe after a timeout. The third is a `GOVERNANCE.md` sentence whose
"those" bound only to `uv`. The fourth is declined below.
- The second pass found two, both fixed in 9b49229: the network-calls
sentence left out the script fetches, and one docstring line ran past
100 columns.
- The third pass covers the head and found two `introduced` findings,
open under the spent budget:
- `tests/test_hub_fetch_run.py:196`, `introduced`: `DATA_PATH` repeats a
path the test at line 370 spells locally and `hub.COMPANIONS` holds.
Declined. A test pins the literal path rather than reading the module's
own constant. A rename in the snippet then fails the test instead of
passing with it.
- `tests/test_hub_fetch_run.py:2`, `introduced`: the module docstring's
subject list does not name the `git ls-remote` fallback. Declined as
`style`. The list stays true, since the fallback feeds the provenance
path it names.
Declined from the first pass: a host's global `url.insteadOf` can
rewrite `https://github.com/` to SSH. There `ls-remote` can prompt for a
key or a host key on the terminal. That host configuration is the
maintainer's own, the prompt is visible rather than silent, and it is
reached only after the API lookup fails. `GOVERNANCE.md` "Trust
Boundaries and Hardening Effort" rules out hardening for it.
## Verification
- `uv run --no-project --with-requirements tests/requirements.txt python
-m unittest discover -s tests` -> `Ran 2860 tests`, `OK (skipped=7)`.
- `uvx ruff@latest format --check .`, `uvx ruff@latest check`, and `uvx
mypy@latest` -> clean.
- `python3 scripts/build_dist.py --check` -> `Generated skill

[P2] Say that uv installs the test dependencies rather than claiming there are no packages to install. This row now covers tests/requirements.txt, which contains third-party libraries and is explicitly installed by the CI and documented local commands, so the current wording is contradictory and can lead a host maintainer to omit the required dependency setup.

## Summary
Fixes the two findings the fourth Copilot round on the develop -> main
promotion #3417 raised.
- **An oversized finding count reads unknown.** `stated()` in
`scripts/pr_review_copilot.py` read a section count longer than
`COUNT_DIGITS` as zero. A body saying `99999 open findings` therefore
read as a clean round.
- `believed(digits)` is the one length check, used by `count_state` and
`stated`. That completes the class #3419 began.
- `stated` returns `None` for such a count, and the reader notes "a
finding count this reader cannot believe".
- `Section.findings` is `int | None`. `total(counts)` is the one
None-aware sum, used by `Reading.held`, by the open count in `_read`,
and by `collected()` in `scripts/pr_review.py`.
- An unbelievable open count reads `overview=?`, which leaves Merge Gate
item 3 unsatisfied. A flagging round stating only such a count exits
`50`. Any `suppressed=`, `previously_missed=`, or `cr_outside_diff=`
tally holding one prints `?`.
- The usage text and `scripts/README.md` describe the `?` reading.
- **The gates-and-tests row in `docs/host-setup.md`** says `uv` installs
`tests/requirements.txt` for the tests, rather than that there are no
packages to install.
## Tests
- `test_an_oversized_count_reads_as_none_and_is_noted` covers an open
section labeled `99999 open findings`, the same count as a bold line,
and a believable section beside an oversized line. Each expects `open is
None` and the note. On develop's code all three fail, reading `0` or
`1`.
-
`test_an_unbelievable_section_count_is_none_beside_a_believed_open_count`
covers suppressed and previously-missed sections.
- `test_an_unbelievable_previously_missed_count_tallies_as_unknown`
asserts `previously_missed=? (on_head=0 earlier=?)` and exit `0`.
- `test_an_unbelievable_open_count_reads_unknown_and_holds_the_round`
asserts `overview=?/0`, the note, and exit `50`.
## Local review
Four recorded passes at the `frontier` tier.
- The first raised three, fixed in 8d4ad75. The suppressed and
previously-missed tallies still read the count as zero. The length check
lived in two places, and two docstrings were stale.
- The second raised five. Three are fixed in 3f766ca. The usage text
and README did not describe `?`. The None-aware sum lived twice, and the
new digest test asserted no exit code.
- Two from the second are declined. `counts["threaded"]` stays
`self.open or 0`, since its one consumer reads 0 and None alike and
fails closed. The `VERDICT WITH NO COUNTED FINDING` text reads "counts
no finding" for a round stating only an unbelievable count. That fails
closed too, with `overview=?` and the note printed beside it.
- The third raised three, fixed in 743010e once the edit budget was
spent. The open count kept its own None flag beside `total`. Two
sentences the change extended ran past 25 words.
- The fourth covers the head. Its findings are against text the previous
fixes wrote, so editing stops here and each is listed below.
## Open findings from the last pass
- `scripts/README.md:229` and `scripts/pr_review.py:90`, `introduced`:
in "A count it cannot believe reads `?` too.", "it" can be read as the
round rather than the reader. Declined as `style`. The paragraph defines
`?` for "a count the reader cannot believe" earlier, and the field gates
nothing.
- `scripts/pr_review.py:91` and `scripts/pr_review_copilot.py:110`,
`style`: the rewrap left one 131-column usage line and one short
docstring line. Declined, since ruff does not select E501 here and the
base already holds such lines.
## Pre-existing findings, not filed
- `scripts/pr_review.py` digest notes, `pre-existing`:
`cr_outside_diff=?` prints with no note naming the section, because the
digest collects reader notes only from Copilot's rounds. The base read
the same count as 0.
## Verification
- `uv run --no-project --with-requirements tests/requirements.txt python
-m unittest discover -s tests` -> `Ran 2864 tests`, `OK (skipped=7)`.
- `uvx ruff@latest check`, `uvx ruff@latest format --check`, and `uvx
mypy@latest` -> clean.
- `test_an_oversized_count_reads_as_none_and_is_noted` against develop's
adapter -> `FAILED (failures=3)`.

Answer to the headline of the Copilot round on 9f19b2a4: "The broad promotion has three unresolved moderate findings, including a parser-contract violation and environment-dependent testing, so final human review is required."
The round states No open issues, opens no thread, and collapses no finding, so the headline locates nothing new. It matches the Copilot findings this promotion declined with evidence rather than fixed. Each has its outcome on record:
Parser contract, spec/carried_text.py:45, "Require a valid closing-fence indent". Disproven in its thread. fence_step computes run only for an indent of three or less, so a four-space closer leaves the fence open. The reproduction there shows the section running past ## Heading.
Environment-dependent testing, spec/validate.py:393, "Reject registry entries with no audit handler". Disproven as a path to an audit in its thread. RegistryCase in tests/test_audit_helpers.py fails CI's python -m unittest discover -s tests on any registered id with no check_ function. The reproduction there renames one id and shows KeyError: 'check_branch_factsz'.
The report generator lines, spec/fidelity_honesty.py:297 and spec/workflow_reuse.py:208, "Regenerate the checked-in ... report". Disproven in the earlier answer. Each header records the run that wrote it, and at those commits neither script carried a # /// script block.
Every other finding on this promotion is fixed, in #3418, #3419, #3420, and #3421. All nine review threads are resolved with a reply, and every Previously missed entry has an answer in this conversation.
