I'm on Debian 12 (bookworm) which installs Python 3.11, so I can't yet do
pip install py_slvs
So I should be able to to clone this repo and then do either of the following, right?
python setup.py install
or
pip install .
That didn't work.
$ pip -V
pip 23.0 from /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/pip (python 3.11)
$ pip install .
Defaulting to user installation because normal site-packages is not writeable

I also tried this on a Debian 11 (bullseye) machine which uses Python 3.9.
$ pip -V
pip 20.3.4 from /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/pip (python 3.9)
@DavidGriffith You can try to get the newest version of FreeCAD (0.20.2), install Assembly3 via the Add-on Manager and click Ok when it prompts about lack of py_slvs dependency and suggests auto-installation. I had an similar error, updating FreeCAD from v0.19 solved it.
You'll need scikit-build, just pip install scikit-build. BTW, I've uploaded prebuilt wheel for Python 3.11, so you don't really need to build it yourself.
