Summary

  • Remove the sed/perl rewrites of the generated OpenCode plugin and pi extension from config/openfactor/install.sh. The OpenFactor CLI now generates plugins that post events to the daemon socket in process, so there is no per-event spawn left to patch.
  • Drop the now-unused OPENFACTOR_PERL export from the activation script.
  • Replace the patch spec cases with one that asserts activation leaves the generated plugin files byte-for-byte unchanged.

Decisions

decided: keep the jq socket gate for JSON command hooks - Claude and Codex still run one command per event, so the gate remains the only way to skip them when no daemon listens.
decided: no compatibility branch for old CLI output - this merges only after the CLI release that generates in-process plugins, and activation runs openfactor upgrade before hooks install.

Verification

  • shellspec spec/openfactor_spec.sh: 10 examples, 0 failures.
  • shellcheck config/openfactor/install.sh spec/openfactor_spec.sh: clean.

Summary by cubic

Stops patching the generated OpenCode and pi hook plugins from config/openfactor/install.sh. The OpenFactor CLI now generates plugins that post events to the daemon socket in process, so the old sed/perl rewrites for spawn-per-event and pipe blocking are obsolete and would only corrupt the new output.

  • Drops the now-unused OPENFACTOR_PERL export from the activation script.
  • Replaces the patch spec cases with one asserting activation leaves plugins byte-for-byte unchanged.
  • Keeps the jq socket gate for JSON command hooks, since Claude and Codex still run one command per event.
  • No compatibility branch for old CLI output: activation runs openfactor upgrade before hooks install.

Verification: shellspec spec/openfactor_spec.sh (10 examples, 0 failures) and shellcheck pass.

Written for commit 7fc4099. Summary will update on new commits.

The CLI now generates OpenCode and pi plugins that deliver events to
the daemon in process, so the sed/perl rewrites of those files are
obsolete and would only corrupt the new output.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Changes
    • OpenFactor installation no longer modifies generated OpenCode and pi hook integrations. Their event configuration and payload delivery behavior remain as generated, and OpenCode hooks no longer receive an additional orchestration-socket check. The activation process also no longer sets an extra Perl-related environment variable before installation.

The activation script no longer exports OPENFACTOR_PERL. The installer no longer rewrites generated OpenCode and pi integrations. The spec now checks that existing plugin and extension files remain unchanged when the installer runs with a CLI available.

Change: Bug fix

The plugin-preservation test may pass without exercising installation on systems lacking /usr/bin/true. The change remains mergeable with this bounded test gap, though a portable CLI stub would make the test reliable.

A rabbit watched the hooks stay still,
No more edits from install’s quill.
OpenCode and pi files remain,
The tests check each one again.
The bunny hops beside the shell,
And nibbles clover. All is well.

✅ No new issues found.

Reviewed changes

  • Removed obsolete sed/perl patches for generated OpenCode and pi hook plugins from config/openfactor/install.sh
  • Removed unused OPENFACTOR_PERL export from config/openfactor/default.nix
  • Updated tests in spec/openfactor_spec.sh to verify generated plugins are left byte-for-byte unchanged
  • Preserved jq socket gate for JSON command hooks (needed for Claude/Codex compatibility)

The changes are justified because the OpenFactor CLI now generates plugins that post events to the daemon socket in-process, making the old per-event spawn patches obsolete. Removing them prevents corruption of the new plugin format.

Use an executable CLI stub and assert that the installer invokes it.

OPENFACTOR_BIN=/usr/bin/true is not portable. If that path is absent, the installer exits successfully before hooks install. The test then compares unchanged files without proving that the CLI ran.

Create an executable stub under TMP_HOME, record its arguments, and assert hooks install --scope host --json before comparing the files.
