fix(galactica): load Kyber writer key without login passphrase - #3226
Galactica's system agenix job stops at its existing passphrase-protected GPG/SSH secrets when launchd has no terminal. A manual activation prompted for that passphrase and installed the Kyber writer key, but the headless job kept exiting 1. This change gives only the writer key an independent root launchd job that decrypts its host-key-encrypted ciphertext and atomically installs a user-owned 0400 key file.
The existing GPG and Git SSH secret recipients are unchanged. The old agenix job remains responsible for those secrets; its headless passphrase issue is separate.

Writer key at boot
Shared agenix job stops on an earlier passphrase-protected secret.
A scoped RunAtLoad job decrypts only the writer ciphertext with Galactica's SSH host key.
Key installation
A manual agenix run creates a link into its RAM disk.
The job atomically replaces the key path with a regular file owned by the user at mode 0400.
Other secrets
Existing recipients and agenix service.
Same recipients and service.
Validation
The final pushed head b7df630 includes current main. make build HOST=galactica and nix build --no-link .#checks.aarch64-darwin.eval-darwin-galactica passed on that head.
Nix evaluation confirms the writer job runs at load, retries a failed decrypt with a 60-second throttle, logs failures, and stays outside the passphrase-dependent agenix secret set.
The built job passed bash -n; nixfmt --check and git diff --check origin/main...HEAD passed. The first PR head passed six GitHub checks; checks for the final head are pending readback.
Review follow-up: the three Cubic findings were addressed by updating the evaluation assertion, adding a launchd log, and retrying failures. Commit 98afb6d.
Activation and rollback
After review and merge, build/switch Galactica from the merged revision with local sudo. Read back the launchd job result, key owner/mode and regular-file type, then prove that pinned BatchMode SSH reaches Kyber's restricted command. The current key already authenticated after a manual agenix run; this PR needs a live headless activation readback to prove boot durability.
Rollback by reverting this daemon and restoring the writer's prior agenix mapping. Keep the restricted Kyber public key in place until a working writer identity has been verified, then remove it if the feature is retired.
Improved availability and access protection for a service credential during system startup.
The Galactica configuration removes the Kyber writer key from the age.secrets mapping. A launchd daemon now decrypts that key with the SSH host key and installs it at the configured identity path.

A launchd daemon runs at load. Its script decrypts the key using the SSH host key, sets the owner and mode to 0400, then moves it to the configured identity path. The script removes its temporary file if a command fails.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 16d0e
Galactica's Kyber writer key is now installed by a dedicated root job instead of the shared secrets mapping. The repository's evaluation check still expects the old mapping, so flake checks can fail until the test is updated to assert the new job and key path. Separately, staging the temporary key in a root-owned directory is optional hardening, because the account already has full sudo. Update the evaluation check before merging.

Reviewed changes: Single-file config change in named-hosts/galactica/default.nix — removes kyber-writer from shared agenix secrets and adds an independent root launchd daemon that decrypts it using the host SSH key at boot time.
The PR correctly addresses the headless Kyber writer key loading problem. The writer key is removed from the shared agenix secrets map (which fails in headless mode due to passphrase-protected secrets) and instead decrypted independently via a root launchd daemon using the host's SSH host key (no passphrase needed). The daemon atomically installs the key with proper ownership and permissions. All validations passed.

Stage the decrypted key in a root-owned directory.
The job makes .ssh user-owned and mode 0700. The user can replace temp with a symlink. Shell redirection, GNU chown, and GNU chmod follow that symlink, so the root job can write to and change the ownership and mode of a selected root-owned file.
This is not a user-to-root escalation on Galactica because shunkakinoki already has NOPASSWD: ALL. Critical severity is not proportionate. For defense in depth, create temp in a root-owned, mode-0700 staging directory on the same filesystem, apply chown and chmod there, then move it into .ssh.
