Update not working

I notice that in version 0.11.4, update was done in such a way that it doesn't re-draw the inventory.
What is the purpose of it then? How exactly are we marking things for updating, and refreshing the inventory with new values?

The Wiki examples section still uses the update in the old way, so I'm unsure of how to work with this exactly. Especially as there is some dirtyRows logic, that apparently is not really used at all? Or am I missing something.

The code you write shouldn't need changes. There's no way to mark items or panes as needing to be updated. Once you have made changes to them, you simply call Gui#update and IF will update it for you. Just like before, it will still update all items. The main difference is that previously it'd call HumanEntity#openInventory to re-open the inventory. This is no longer being done and only the items are updated.

There are two cases in which the gui will recreate an entirely new inventory. That is for chest guis, when the amount of rows has been changed and for guis with a title, when their title have been changed. This is also what the dirtyRows logic is for, but you don't need to interact with that yourself.

Not reopening the inventory has some advantages. For example, if the player closes their gui from the client-side, while an update is in progress, the inventory will be reopened. This is no longer the case when you don't open the inventory again. See also #205 for some more details.

I had an issue where I wanted to update an anvil GUI whenever a letter was typed, so I could perform live filtering. Since nothing was actually changed when a player would delete text, the GUI would not update. I had to use a workaround where I added a space to the end of the GUI name to force an update. A force update method would be very useful.

I think you can achieve this by re-opening the gui for the player with Gui#show.
