Fixes #233

What does this PR do?

Fixes an issue where clicking Pay Entire Batch could pay a previously selected invoice instead of the invoice batch that was actually clicked.

The issue happened because handleBatchPayment was reading a stale selectedInvoices value after setSelectedInvoices and setTimeout.

How was this implemented?

  • Updated handleBatchPayment and getGroupedInvoices to accept invoice IDs directly
  • payEntireBatch now passes the clicked batch's invoice IDs directly
  • Removed the setTimeout workaround
  • Updated the Pay selected button to call handleBatchPayment() explicitly so the click event is not passed as ids
  • The existing selected-invoices flow is preserved through the default parameter

Testing

Tested on Sepolia with two unpaid invoices from different batches.

Before

When clicking Pay Entire Batch for one batch, the previously selected invoice could be paid instead.

1_before_click_other_invoice_selected

After

The clicked batch is correctly selected and the correct invoice is paid.

2_after_click_pay_entire_batch

I have also included a before and after video for better understanding of the bug and the fix.

The video is included in the ZIP below because GitHub's direct video upload limit was exceeded:

[Before and after video](https://github.com/user-attachments/files/33120927/files.zip)

I tried adding the video directly to the PR, but GitHub reported that the video was too large. Therefore, I kept the ZIP attachment so the complete recording is still available for review.

Walkthrough

Batch payment functions accept invoice IDs and group matching invoices. payEntireBatch passes unpaid batch IDs directly to the payment handler instead of relying on updated selection state.

Change: Bug fix · Severity of issue fixed: Medium

Suggested labels: Typescript Lang

Suggested reviewers: atharva0506

Merge Risk: 🟠 High · up to c4396

The Received Invoices page appears unable to compile because of duplicated function definitions, which would break the page entirely. Once that is fixed, paying selected invoices may still include already-paid or cancelled invoices, causing the whole batch payment to fail. Both should be fixed before merging.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to c4a43

The fix binds payment to the clicked batch instead of stale selection state. It preserves wallet authorization and the existing payment interface; no introduced or worsened security risk was identified in the reviewed change.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The changed target-selection path remains bounded to invoices loaded for the connected wallet and transactions authorized by that wallet. It does not introduce arbitrary external ID input, new signing authority, or broader contract privileges.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The repository contract independently requires the caller to be every invoice's recipient, rejects paid or cancelled invoices, duplicate IDs, and mixed tokens, and guards batch payment against reentrancy. ERC20 approval remains signer-authorized for the payment contract. These controls are unchanged from the PR base; deployed-version equivalence was not independently established.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Settlement remains atomic per contract batch, not across token groups. The frontend marks each group paid after confirmation and clears selection only after all groups succeed. Partial progress can leave paid IDs selected for retry, and row batch actions can overlap; both behaviors predate this PR. Contract terminal-state checks reject repeat settlement, while explicit IDs now keep concurrent invocations bound to their respective clicked batches.

Explanation

Issue #233 requires the clicked batch invoice IDs to reach payment and requires normal selected-invoice payment to remain available. In the reviewed ReceivedInvoice.jsx, getGroupedInvoices contains multiple nested declarations, including duplicate getGroupedInvoices declarations inside the invoice loop. The helper does not provide a valid single grouping implementation for the IDs passed by payEntireBatch, so the required batch payment behavior is not established.

Resolution

Remove the nested duplicate declarations. Keep one valid getGroupedInvoices(ids = selectedInvoices) implementation that groups matching receivedInvoices. Confirm that payEntireBatch passes its batch ID set to handleBatchPayment and that the Pay selected action uses the default selection.

Thanks for tracking this down, @Mansi2007275! The diagnosis is correct. The setTimeout in payEntireBatch called the handleBatchPayment from the render when the button was clicked, so it always read the old selectedInvoices. Waiting 1 second couldn't fix that. Passing the IDs in directly is the right fix.

Things I checked:

  • handleBatchPayment(ids = selectedInvoices) and getGroupedInvoices(ids = selectedInvoices): the default keeps the existing "Pay selected" flow and the summary render working as before.
  • Changing onClick={handleBatchPayment} to onClick={() => handleBatchPayment()} is needed. Without it, React would pass the click event in as ids and ids.has would throw. Good catch.

A few requests before merge:

  1. Proof: please put the before/after screenshots or a short recording directly in the PR description instead of a .zip attachment. Reviewers shouldn't have to download and open archives.
  2. Linked issue: please open an issue for this bug (or link an existing one) and reference it with Fixes #....

Out of scope, just for awareness (this existed before your change): in the per-token loop of handleBatchPayment, setReceivedInvoice(receivedInvoices.map(...)) reads the same old receivedInvoices on every pass. With a multi-token selection, only the last group shows as paid until the page is refreshed. You're welcome to open a separate issue/PR for it. No need to fix it here.

Hi @Mansi2007275, a friendly but important reminder about PR descriptions ⚠️

This PR (and some of your earlier ones) doesn't use the repository's pull request template. When you open a PR, GitHub pre-fills the template from the org-level PULL_REQUEST_TEMPLATE.md. Please keep that structure and fill in every section rather than replacing it with a free-form description.

The template matters to us because it:

  • Links the PR to an issue (Fixes #...), so we can track what's being addressed and who is working on it.
  • Helps us identify and keep track of contributors, including confirming that you've joined the Discord.
  • Includes the AI Usage Disclosure. Please tick the right checkbox and list any AI models/tools you used. Using AI is fine when it follows the AI Usage Policy, but disclosing it is mandatory.
  • Includes the checklist confirming that you've read the Contribution Guidelines, run the build, and addressed CodeRabbit's comments.

Please edit this PR's description to follow the template, and use it for all future PRs. As the template says, PRs that don't fill it out completely may be closed without review, and we'd rather not do that to good work like this fix.

Thanks for your contributions, and for understanding! 🙏

Thanks @Atharva0506 for the detailed review and guidance.

I had added the zip mainly for better understanding because it contains the before and after video, which shows the issue and the fix more clearly.

But I understand your point that reviewers should not have to download and open the zip. I will add the video or the before and after screenshots directly to the PR description instead.

I will also update the PR description using the repository template, create or link the issue with Fixes #..., and complete the AI usage disclosure and checklist.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Remove the duplicate function headers and use ids throughout batch payment.

The added headers leave the existing implementations nested inside unfinished functions. The file now has a whole-file syntax error. The retained handleBatchPayment body also checks and validates selectedInvoices instead of its ids argument.

Keep one complete definition of each function. Update the existing grouping and batch-payment bodies to use ids. Preserve the loaded-page validation, but apply it to ids.

Filter the selected IDs to payable invoices before payment.

The normal Pay selected flow passes selectedInvoices, and the visible checkboxes can select paid or cancelled invoices. Line 646 no longer filters that selection through payableSelected. After the duplicate definitions are fixed, submitting such a selection can make the contract reject the entire payment group. Resolve the IDs against loaded invoices, then retain only invoices that satisfy isInvoicePayable.

Thanks for the fix, @Mansi2007275! We've decided to remove the "Pay Entire Batch" button instead. A recipient only gets one invoice per batch, so it does the same as Pay, and the checkboxes already cover paying several invoices. Closing this one. Appreciate the work and the clear before/after proof.
